This looks like a wide open race despite there only being the 6 runners. GUERLAIN DE VAUX gets a narrow vote after a nice win at Market Rasen at his first try at 2 and a half miles and should improve again for this longer trip. He won that race easily and if in the same form he will be bang there.
Starsky has penalties for his wins and is rated the best in the field but his run on soft ground last time out is enough to think he is beatable here. Best Trition and Gredin look live dangers to the selection with both proven over the trip and on soft ground in a good race to kick off.
Catterick 1.10
An interesting race and I thought Tanora was short enough. She did improve for a wind op when second here last time but she remains a maiden and at just 2/1 I wouldn’t be certain today is the day. I’m going to chance WORLD TRIP bouncing back for Olly Murphy. This mare caught the eye on return and while she was pulled up at Exeter last time she had excuses and this looks a suitable race for her to bounce back in. She looks well handicapped off a mark of 92 and I think she’ll go close under Fergus Gregory.
Jessiemac is a decent yardstick and she has won here before so she might emerge as the danger off a 2lb lower mark. Velkera is also worth a second look but she was a bit disappointing at Fakenham and also needs a bit of a revival but again this is a low grade race.
Catterick 1.40
A strong race on the cards here with the top 3 in the market all looking to hold strong chances. TUMBLING DICE looks like the one to side with after a nice course and distance win 2 weeks ago. He was only raised 5lb for that win and is relatively unexposed at this trip. If in the same form he is the one to beat and I can see him being well backed in the market.
No Cruise Yet is the main danger based on his second over course and distance at the tail end of last year and should go well again. Melanamix is the favourite at the time of writing as she is in great form but still needs to prove herself over this trip.
Catterick 2.10
This looks pretty straightofrward for Brian Hughes and A DIFFERENT KIND and I’ll be surprised if they’re beaten. He is unbeaten under Rules having won two bumpers impressively before winning by 15 lengths on hurdles debut at Sedgefield and then following up from another nice prospect in Green Book at Haydock. He almost certainly has more to offer and can make it 5 in a row here.
Not so much the main danger but the one to follow the fav home Any Givin Sunday looks most likely. He made a bright start winning on debut over timber for this yard at Huntingdon before failing to give his running at Plumpton. If he bounces back he should finish a comfortable second.
Catterick 2.40
Not the strongest race and it looks a great opportunity for SIDI ISMAEL to make it 4 wins in a row for David Pipe. He has been winning easily over various trips and his win last time suggests an extra 8lb shouldn’t be an issue and he will be fine in the conditions. In a weak race he is the one they all have to beat as he will be staying on dourly at the finish given the way he won last time.
There could be a few dangers if Chef D’Oeuvre and Almazhar Garde bounce back now back at suitable trips after both running poorly over further last time out. The latter in particularly needs to jump better to get competitive.
Catterick 3.10
After such a promising win at Ayr NOTEBOOK was a bit disappointing last time but he just didn’t jump well enough and it’s early days so I do think he is worth another chance. He goes up in trip and stamina should be his strongpoint. That was only his third run over hurdles so he remains open to further improvement and I think he can take advantage off an opening mark of 119. Gavin Sheehan is back in the saddle too which is definitely a big positive given how well he has been riding lately.
Be The Difference was a drifter in the betting when beaten into third at Ffos Las but did run well so has to be respected. His mark looks about right though so not certain how much more he has to offer. Art Of Diplomacy looks the danger having won well at Ludlow and then only gone down narrowly at Hereford last time.
Catterick 3.40
There isn’t much between a few of these with a slight preference for ANYHARMINASKING who makes his handicap debut here. His last two runs over 2 miles look solid and he handles soft ground well. His opening marking looks fair (114) and he should go very well here for a yard that have been among the winners recently.
Pearl Warrior is the main danger after a really good handicap debut when finishing second at Market Rasen last month. He should improve further but may not have as much scope as the selection. At a bigger price Kensington Art could go well if handling the softer conditions.
