Cheltenham 1.55
This is a wide open renewal and with Farinet now out I am going to have an each way bet on JACAMAR who could still be well handicapped and if his jumping improves he could be over priced. He can make the odd mistake so will need to put in a clear round of jumping but if he does he has an obvious shout. The main danger could be Coole Cody who is a favourite of ours and usually bounces back from a poor run and loves it here.
Others to note include Galahad Quest who could find a bit of improvement to get involved here and Torn And Frayed who was pulled up when last seen but he got stuck in the heavy ground and he should be a lot happier in conditions this afternoon. Whatmore is another one who could run well at big odds so no forlorn hope to hit the frame.
Doncaster 2.10
With 3 wins from her last 6 runs MIRANDA should defend her crown here. She won it impressively last year and has plenty in her favour again with Bryony Frost taking over in the saddle. She will strip fitter again and showed a cracking attitude to get up at Ludlow last month. The second Voice Of Calm has won impressively since so the form has been given some substance.
The danger looks to be Anna Bunina. She could only manage fifth behind Tommy’s Oscar on return at Musselburgh but should come on for that and is likely to give the selection something to think about at least. Miss Heritage is consistent and should give her running but that is unlikely to be good enough especially against the favourite.
A race won by some proper top level horses over the years and CHANTRY HOUSE will be looking to add to that elite list. He pulled up in the King George after never really travelling that day so he needs to bounce back. This is a much easier race and with cheekpieces applied we should see him back to his best and has to be the one to beat on his best form. If he runs his race that should be sufficient.
With Simply The Betts still having to prove himself over 3 miles Aye Right could well be the main danger to Chantry House. He won a good handicap last time out and could run a big race here. Santini has won this before but needs to roll back the years to win this year and is hard to warm to off the back of that distant fourth here last time.
Doncaster 2.45
I’m surprised MY BOBBY DAZZLER is as big as 9/2 at the time of writing. He is proven over this trip having won impressively up to 3 miles for the first time winning by some 21 lengths at Aintree last month. He was beaten at Cheltenham but still shaped well in defeat and should have a big say in the finish here. He remains unexposed and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him just yet.
Unanswered Prayers is favourite at the time of writing but he still needs to prove himself up in distance and while he is promising this will require another step up. Bridge North looks a nice staying type and as long as this doesn’t come too soon he could also get competitive under Tommy Bells.
Cheltenham 3.05
Paisley Park has won the last two runnings of this race but may find it tough against CHAMP again. The latter wasn’t expected to beat Thyme Hill on his seasonal reappearance but just kept on finding to win the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot. He will be much better for the run and should take some beating here. If he wins this connections will be hopeful he can go on to land the Stayers at the Festival in March.
McFabulous is well worth another go at this trip as he seems to be in good form after a second behind Stormy Ireland at the track last time. Paisley Park could still be a danger to Champ but did have the fitness-edge when they last met so would need to put up a career best to reverse that and I can’t see it personally.
Doncaster 3.20
A strong renewal of this race and I’m going to chance FUSIL RAFFLES for Nicky Henderson. He has a good strike rate over fences having won 4 times from 7 completed starts. He has mixed it with some very good horses over the last couple of years and if he can put in a clean round of jumping a mark of 151 might not be beyond him. He finished fourth to Coole Cody off 152 despite making a bad mistake so that was encouraging.
Plenty of dangers as you’d imagine probably headed by Debece who goes well fresh and has had another wind op since last seen. Demachine was a smart novice chaser last season and could be worth another chance after unseating at Ludlow. Midnight Shadow is another who can’t be ruled out given his aptitude for the job.
Cheltenham 3.40
If it wasn’t for HILLCREST‘s impressive run over course and distance last time this would be wide open. This is a good field but that win last time was a step above what any of these have shown so far when beating I Am Maximus. They all have more to come but he could take this under a penalty on that form and will be shorter than his current 18/1 for the Ballymore in March.
Balco Coastal is the main danger with two nice wins which read well on the clock and he should improve again. North Lodge and A Different Kind could have their say but it will take a very good one to beat the selection and this obviously looks a lot tougher than what they have been competing in recently.
