NAP – Best selection of the evening
Wolverhampton 6.20 Whittle Le Woods (15/8)
Progressive sort who missed out by just a neck to a horse that won his next two before winning at Chelmsford; beaten half a length at Kempton last time and had excuses; more to come and cheekpieces can help.
With the promise of more to come I’m confident WHITTLE LE WOODS can take this out. He was beaten just a length at Kempton last time but I don’t think they went hard enough for him and he just couldn’t pick up as well as we know he can in the closing stages. His win at Chelmsford prior to that over this trip was much more like it and off a mark of 80 there should be a fair bit more to come yet. Toussarok is likely to go hard off the front and even Tipperary Tiger and Spartan Fighter could go forward so he should get a nice toe in before looking to finish best. I’d say Tipperary Tiger is the danger off that Southwell win even up another 4lb. Chief Little Hawk will be shaper now and is also worth a mention.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) WON AGAIN YESTERDAY AND IS ON A HAT-TRICK!
Newcastle 2.00 Sounds Russian (5/2)
Improving young chaser who arrives chasing a hat-trick after winning impressively at Sedgefield and then following up head in chest at Kelso last time; more improvement to come up in trip despite the rise.
An 11lb rise is plenty but we saw Anyharminasking defy a 13lb rise at the weekend and sometimes it’s a sign the handicapper is struggling to keep tabs. SOUNDS RUSSIAN has won his last two by a combined 26 lengths and he was mightily impressive at Kelso. The catalyst for further progression could be this further step up in trip and I’m keen to keep him on side. I think he’ll be popular come post time so the 5/2 may well be worth taking. Marown looks the danger for Nicky Richards. He has had a wind op since disappointing at Ayr and if getting back on track will give the favourite something to think about. Court Master had a tough ask from out the handicap last time but will find this easier at least.
