NAP – Best selection of the evening
Southwell 5.30 Elhafei (5/4)
Landed a hat-trick on turf in the summer and capitalised on a much lower AW mark winning readily over C&D last month, doing it with a bit to spare; 4lb rise shouldn’t be enough to stop him so fancied to follow up.
The in-form ELHAFEI should be hard to beat at Southwell on Tuesday evening. He was rated as high as 78 on turf in the summer and cashed in off a lower mark on the AW over track and trip last month. He always travelled well in rear that day and came through with a strong challenge to win easily by a couple of lengths at the line. The second Eagle One is a decent yardstick so the form looks solid. A 4lb rise is lenient and he should follow up granted usual luck in-running when coming through. Soaring Star has to be the danger on recent form but I thought he’d put up more of a fight last time and was well held at the line. He can race keenly so needs to settle better to give the fav something to think about.

Taunton 3.35 Dr T J Eckleburg (11/8)
Promising type who caught the eye when a good second on hurdles debut at Newbury and improved to win convincingly at Ludlow last month; opening handicap mark looks to underestimate him and can follow up here.
An opening mark of 115 looks to underestimate DR T J ECKLEBURG after an impressive win at Ludlow last month. He is clearly improving and came through strongly last time despite not jumping brilliantly. If he is slicker here he should have too much for these rivals. Natural History could be the danger but he is a tricky sort to catch right and needs to drop his head to give himself every chance. Amelia’s Dance is chasing a hat-trick but a further 5lb rise against an improving sort might be enough to find her out. Seventeen O Four is obviously unexposed but he will need the drop back in trip to help him get competitive. Sofia’s Rock is dropping in the weights but needs to stage a revival.
