NAP – Best selection of the evening

Warwick 2.05 Edwardstone (1/1)

Exciting chaser who announced himself as a serious Arkle contender winning the Henry VIII by 16 lengths with Third Time Lucki trailing in third; backed that up winning by 10 lengths at Kempton last time; hard to oppose here.

Following that mishap on chase debut where he was brought down EDWARDSTONE hasn’t looked back over fences, making it 3-3 winning head in chest again at Kempton last time. He is a strong travelling sort and a sound jumper and I love the way he pours it on late. He swept past Third Time Lucki en route to Grade 1 glory at Sandown and I expect him to bring up the four-timer this afternoon before having a crack at the Arkle at Cheltenham next month. Third Time Lucki is improving over fences himself and was impressive at Doncaster last month but I still think he has enough to find if he’s to reverse that Sandown form. Brave Seasca is also going the right way but this is tougher.

NAP

Warwick 2.05 Edwardstone (1/1)

Newbury 2.25 Clan Des Obeaux (6/4)

Top-class chaser who ran a cracker when beating all bar Tornado Flyer in the King George back in December; hard to oppose with that under his belt and can win this for the second time in the last four years; clearly the one to beat.

I know the stable form is a bit of a worry but as we saw with Honeysuckle for Henry de Bromhead the class acts of the yard tend to buck that trend and CLAN DES OBEAUX remains one of the stable stars. He looked to run right up to form when second in the King George and given he pulled some 3 and a half lengths clear from the third with that under his belt he should take all the beating here. He often tends to need his first run of the season so should be spot on for this now. He won it impressively by 21 lengths back in 2019 and should prove a cut above these. Royale Pagaille stayed on strongly to win the Peter Marsh and looks the danger if not too quick. Eldorado Allen is also respected.
