Race 1 Grafton 2.50 Rhapsody Queen (1/1)

Promising mare who made a bright start going down just 2 and a bit lengths into third on debut; sure to improve from that initial effort and looks well placed to go a couple of places better here; most likely winner.

This won’t take a lot of winning and RHAPSODY QUEEN looks the answer. This mare showed more than enough on debut to suggest she can beat this bunch and with added fitness on side I expect her to go off short for this. She will likely settle much nearer the pace and possibly on it and should have too many gears for them. Rayock is bred to be pretty useful and she ran third in a trial so she could be the main danger to the selection. Windpipe is 0/3 but as weak as this is she might play a hand at some point. I can see her briefly threatening before finding one or two too strong late on. Intoremy will likely do better going forward but might need more time and experience to do so.

Race 5 York 7.47 Stella Fair (13/8)

Likeable mare who was back to her best winning gamely at Pinjarra last month; fitter again and open to further progress so looks to have leading credentials in this field; will push forward and look to boss them.

Big chance for STELLA FAIR to follow up and record win number 3 of her career. She goes up in trip again which should help her and I loved the attitude she showed to prevail last time. With more to come she gets a confident vote to come out on top. The Verdict has won 4 from 15 but has gone off the boil in recent starts and has enough to prove on the balance. Juliette is more exposed but she ran better when runner-up at Mount Barker last time. If she can build on that she might play a part in the finish here. Playing Up might run better than her odds suggest but again she definitely needs more to trouble the selection. Family Connection is useful enough but she is 0/6 over this trip which is concerning.
