NAP – Best selection of the evening
Hereford 3.41 Prince Escalus (11/10)
Ran out a convincing winner over C&D last time and still has potential to do better again; should go forward and could lead these a merry dance; that last run has been franked since too with the second winning well at Newbury.
Listen as Aidan O’Brien would say! This is not the most vintage Saturday’s racing by any means. It’s the weekend before Cheltenham so we’re not going to see anything spectacular so definitely watch your stakes. We head to Hereford for our best bet and PRINCE ESCALUS looks up to justifying favouritism. He won well over C&D last time and a similar performance should suffice here. That form looks rock solid with the second Monsieur Lecoq following up. I don’t see anything in here good enough to peg him back. The danger may well be Moonlighter but he’ll need to put in a clear round of jumping as well as better recent efforts. Financier pulled up last time but this is definitely easier.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS IN A BUMPER AT SANDOWN ON SATURDAY!
Sandown 3.00 Mullenbeg (6/4)
Walk In The Park mare who has recorded progressive form winning easily on debut under Rules at Ludlow and then followed up at Cheltenham, showing a good turn of foot; looks potentially smart and can bring up the hat-trick here.
I don’t usually take such a strong opinion in a bumper but the way MULLENBEG won at Cheltenham last time she has to be a cut above this bunch. She is bred to be pretty useful and left them standing last time. She almost certainly has more to come and complete the hat-trick here with a minimum of fuss. Luccia made a winning start for Nicky Henderson at Warwick but the stable have been struggling for winners which has to be a worry. Eabha Grace is also from a good family and while she struggled last time it’s early days so it wouldn’t surprise me if she emerged as the main threat to the favourite. Hidden Beauty was found to have an irregular heartbeat at Cheltenham so isn’t entirely ruled out either.
