NAP – Best selection of the evening
Kempton 2.05 Fancy Man (7/4)
Smart colt who holds a few of these on that Winter Derby Trial form at Lingfield last month; good third in a strong renewal of that race latest; 3lb penalty but clearly the one to beat on recent form; hard to oppose.
This looks a good opportunity for FANCY MAN to make it 2 wins from his last 3 starts. He ran out a convincing winner over King Of The South on return last month and backed that up with a very solid third in the Winter Derby behind Alenquer and Lord North. He can still improve on the AW given how lightly raced he is but even a reproduction of that last run would likely see him tough to beat. Felix looked good winning at Wolverhampton last year but hasn’t really kicked on from that albeit has continued to go well in defeat. I think he’ll need a career best to peg back the selection here. Father Of Jazz might be a bigger threat as he has won fresh before and sports a first-time hood here which can help him settle.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS ON THE FLAT AT DONCASTER ON SATURDAY!
Doncaster 1.50 Diligent Harry (9/4)
Promising colt who won 3 of his first 4 starts as a 3yo and certainly not disgraced since albeit below form in soft ground at Ascot when last seen; type to do better again and no surprise to see him win on return.
I’m still a big fan of DILIGENT HARRY and I think we are yet to see the best of him. He disappointed at Ascot on final start but the soft ground didn’t look in his favour and I think you can put a line through that. Given time to mature again he is likely to have improved and this could be a good starting point before being targeted at bigger and better prizes in time. Obviously Garrus is a big danger on all known form but I’m not sure he deserves to be as short as he is against a horse with as much potential as the selection. He is a 6yo now too so it’s unlikely to see him progress further than what we have seen already. Of the rest Bielsa can run a big race fresh so is also noted.
