Race 5 Pakenham 5.30 Italian Poet (6/5)
Progressive form in recent starts winning at Kilmore 4 starts back and going close in defeat on each start since; raced without cover and only beaten narrowly last time; won’t need much more to get back to winning ways.
Big chance for ITALIAN POET to salute the judge again. He has been going close since winning at Kilmore and looks the most obvious winner in this field. Badiss scored at Sale on penultimate start but was well held at Mornington and needs more on that form to trouble the favourite. Grand Quill has just the 1 win from 32 starts so it’s hard to see him overhauling the favourite as he is pretty exposed now. Micklewhite won here on penultimate start and is unexposed so could be one of the main threats if improving. Johnny Buccaneer just isn’t running well enough to spring an upset here. Similar comments apply to Bella Australis and Hesontherun who definitely both need more.

Race 7 Armidale 6.55 So Country (2/1)
Good looking sort who doesn’t know how to run a bad race with form figures of 22212 and only denied a length when last seen bumping into another improver; more to come and likely to have all the answers here.
With two near-misses over this trip this looks a great opportunity for SO COUNTRY to get his head back in front. He is building a progressive profile now and won’t need to find much more improvement to win this. He looks the class act in the field and I fancy him strongly to justify favouritism. Divi has won 5 times already and is 2 from 7 over the trip so looks the obvious danger to the selection. Awesome Miss is still unexposed so also has to be respected. Another Sheila was back to form when second at Moree last time and will likely emerge best of the rest. Rapids has gone off the boil but looked pretty useful prior to that so is another one I’ll have my eye on at a bigger price.
