MY AUSTRALIAN NAP WON AGAIN OVERNIGHT AND IS NOW CHASING A FOUR-TIMER!

Race 2 Darwin 4.17 Akoni (6/5)

Promising type who caught the eye when second on debut at Ballarat and then improved to go down less than a length here last month; won impressively over C&D last time and hard to get away from again here.

I’m expecting this to be pretty straightforward for AKONI who is clearly improving fast. He won easily over C&D last time and with further progress to come he should be able to follow up. It’s no surprise to see him odds-on but in all honesty I think he deserves to be even shorter given the opposition. Real Valentia has just the 2 wins from 18 and just 1 from 8 over the trip. He is 0/3 at the track and is second favourite? Definitely needs more but does hit the frame pretty regularly so will likely be involved but hard to see him overturning the selection. Blueberry Boy won here last time and might pose a greater threat but even still he is just 2 from 15 overall and 0/3 over the trip.

Race 2 Rockhampton 5.12 Betterdeel (6/5)

Likeable filly who was back to her best to win at Mackay last time, showing a good attitude; that form stacks up and as long as she gets away on terms she should prove hard to beat especially in this field.

This looks winnable so I think it may pay to side with BETTERDEEL to go in again. She impressed at Mackay having gone close here a few times. The penny seems to have dropped now and if she keeps improving she should have what it takes to win this. Street Glory ran well in a competitive race last time so might not be far away but will need to be at her best to trouble the favourite. Executive Street won nicely last time and is definitely a horse I have on my radar going forward. I think he is the danger here but then he has already been gelded and might lack the potential of the favourite. Still has a bright future though. Money Muncher best of the rest in a race that will throw up plenty of winners.
