NAP – Best tip overnight
MY AUSTRALIAN NAP RUNS IN RACE 1 AT CANBERRA ON FRIDAY MORNING!
Race 1 Canberra 3.40 Diamond City (11/10)
Promising filly who improved to get her head in front at Wyong on penultimate start and had excuses when only fourth at Randwick when last seen; given time since and looks well placed to make a winning return.
It’s difficult to look past the returning DIAMOND CITY here. She is a filly going the right way and if you forgive her that last start at Randwick she should have too much for this field. The obvious danger is Emma’s Gift who has won 3 times from 21 starts. She never runs a bad race and likely won’t be too far away again but probably lacks the potential of the favourite. Redhaor’n’freckles won here last time but this is tougher and she’ll need more if she is to follow up. Song Cycle is quite a nice yardstick and he might show up well for a long way but again hard to see him springing an upset here. Yesterday’s Gone wasn’t beaten far last time and is another to note but again this demands much more.

Race 7 Newcastle 7.40 Cross Talk (11/10)
Progressive sort who has won 5 times from just 8 starts and ran well when third at Hawkesbury last time beaten over a length in a good race; will go forward here and unlikely to be caught if getting his own way.
The wide draw would usually be a concern here but given CROSS TALK is going to push forward and be aggressive I’m backing him ti have the early pace to do so. If he gets dictating then he should have too much for this field as that last run was very solid despite getting beat. Old Flame won at Rosehill last month and is improving so looks the danger to the favourite. Purple Sector was run down last by Old Flame so on that form is unlikely to be far away either. Character has more experience on side but finished last at Randwick last time and this will be a big ask for him to bounce back and win here. Laure Me In is respected on old form but has been badly out of sorts this season.
