Chepstow 1.35

A really open race to kick off ITV Racing on Friday and I think it will pay to side with BROKEN QUEST who is in great form over fences winning 3 of his last 4 and placing second when last seen. Veterans do tend to be a bit unpredictable so he looks one you can rely on to run a big race and is a tad overpriced in my opinion.

Cloth Cap is the main danger despite pulling up in the Grand National when last seen. This is a lot easier than the races he has contested recently and will get close if near full fitness. Some Chaos would also be dangerous if getting into a rhythm.

Newmarket 1.50

I was really taken with the way PRINCE OF PILLO quickened away from the front at Ayr last month and he is clearly a colt going places. He won his first 2 starts before suffering a troublesome passage in the Flying Childers at Doncaster. He quickly bounced back from that to win the Rosebery and looks a sprinter improving fast. The horse he had trailing 3 and a half lengths back in second Bolt Action has won since so the form has been franked too.

Crispy Cat finished in front of the selection at Doncaster and looks one of the dangers. Rogue Spirit was third in the Super Sprint and was back to form winning at Haydock a fortnight ago so also has to be respected albeit this definitely tougher.

Chepstow 2.10

The Persian War this year looks so competitive with it hard to rule any of these out. DEEPER BLUE is one I really like though and he could have a lot more to come. He has won his last two by a combined 36 lengths and doesn’t have a lot to find with some of his rivals. If he is fit enough on his first run of the season he will go well for a yard that look to be making a fast start.

Quid Pro Quo is clearly quite promising but I’m not convinced he will find a great deal off the bridle so that will be interesting. A greater threat could come from Presentandcounting who has been on the go all summer putting together a hat-trick of wins. If in the same form as his run 2 weeks ago he will be the one to give the selection most to think about.

Newmarket 2.25

The way RAGE OF BAMBY won at Leicester last month was hugely promising and I don’t think she lost anything in defeat when third in the Rockfel over C&D last time. She will likely go out in front here and looks to have a very good chance of making all the running under Charlie Bishop. She is obviously open to further improvement after just the 3 starts and it’s going to take a good one to beat her. I’m quite surprised she is 5/1 as I’d definitely have her shorter.

With 11 runners heading to post and the each way enhancements on offer these days I’m going to back YOUNGEST as well. This Dubawi filly made a winning start at Leicester last month and the fact she is pitched straight into a pattern race is quite interesting so she might be overpriced at around 9/1. Crystallium who is a perfect 2-2 looks the obvious threat as like the selection she definitely has more to come.

York 2.40

With a maximum field of 20 set to go to post I have had two bets in this. NORTHERN EXPRESS comes into this off the back of a big run over course and distance last time behind Blue For You. That race looks a hot race in terms of both form and the time. He is unexposed over a mile and if getting away better than last time will run a big race.

At a bigger price WHAT’S THE STORY looks a solid bet at a mile after losing out by a neck at Ayr last time. He stays well so a fast paced mile will suit and the former course and distance winner should outrun his odds. Helm Rock who has won 3 of his last 5 along with Arthur’s Realm look the biggest dangers on their recent form.

Newmarket 3.00

Sacred did win impressively in a Listed race at Newbury last month and has to be feared off the back of that but she was poor at York prior to that and can be a bit hit and miss. I’m just not willing to take a short price about her here and I can let her win at 11/8. I prefer the chances of POGO who is such a likeable horse. He beat all bar Kinross in a Group 2 at York last time and that horse has won at the top level in France since to give the form a boost. He will go hard off the front under Buick and might not come back.

Of the rest Purplepay hasn’t quite lived up to expectations but has been given time since finishing fifth behind Lily Pond in Ireland and might run well here perhaps without seriously threatening. Oscula has endured a fine season but this looks a tough enough ask on paper.

York 3.15

This looks a cracking race and it is good to see the prize money proving what it can do for the quality of a field. STREETS OF GOLD looks a star in the making for Eve Johnson Houghton after winning his first 4 starts. He travels into his races so well and only does what he needs to do in the closing stages of his races. He looks the right favourite and the one to beat here.

Coco Jack is likeable and looked good winning at Hamilton before going down just a short head at Chester. He meets that rival on 8lb better terms so looks most likely to emerge as the main danger. Shouldvebeenaring beat Bolt Action at Ripon following that sales race win at York but was only fourth in the Mill Reef. Should still be fighting it out for a place.

Newmarket 3.35

John and Thady Gosden look to have another potential star on their hands in the shape of COMMISSIONING. This Kingman filly was impressive winning on debut on the July course before bolting up again over 7f here 2 weeks ago in the Rockfel. She is the clear pick on that form and with the extra furlong looking like it will prove ideal she is difficult to oppose here and should remain unbeaten.

Bright Diamond was a 9 length winner on debut on the July course and then only went down a length and three-quarters when third at Goodwood behind Fairy Cross. If she improves again she could be value to finish second. Polly Pott is thriving having won the May Hill last time but again this is tougher and she’ll need more again. Novakai ties in with the latter and might reverse that form.

York 3.50

In an open handicap I think it could be POST IMPRESSIONIST’s time to get his head in front after just losing out to the re-opposing Double Cherry last time. He was stopped in the run so many times up the rail it was amazing to see him finish half a length behind the winner. With a clear run he will run a big race again and at 8/1 certainly looks worth chancing.

Nathanael Greene has run well in every race this season (form of 1241). His trainer William Haggas won this race with yard favourite Hamish a few years back and it looks like he has been targeted at this race. Of the rest Aimeric looks like he has plenty more to come and will go well.

Newmarket 4.10

A competitive renewal of the Old Rowley Cup but I’m confident LA YAKEL brings the most potential to the table here for William Haggas. This son of Time Test has improved with every run and impressed winning so easily at Southwell in July. He backed that up in the Lavazza Stakes at Ascot last month travelling strongly throughout to stay on well and get up close home. The visual impression was backed up by the clock and up 5lb with further progress to come I’m expecting him to be hard to beat here.

First Ruler was a length behind the selection last time but also looks a nice horse and should have more to offer especially over this trip. He is most likely to follow him home. Educator ran a bit flat on reappearance but would also have to be respected if that has sharpened him up.
