Caught the eye taking a big step forward to go close on handicap debut at Chepstow back in June; knocked loudly on the door since not doing much wrong in defeat; first-time cheekpieces could see him breakthrough.
No hiding what a tough month September was but I definitely feel like I’ve turned a corner now and the NAP won again yesterday despite drifting out to 10/3. I’m hopeful of bringing up the HAT-TRICK on Monday. RICHARD P SMITH has been a bit unlucky not to have got his head in front and if the first-time cheekpieces help bring about further improvement he should be tough to stop here. He is officially the highest rated in the field and arrives here in the best form so I really don’t see what is not to like? The danger could be Fillyfudge who is at least unexposed. If she improves she should chase him home. Goldsmith ran better when third at Kempton and is also noted off the same mark.

Windsor 2.50 Dame Ethel Smyth (best price 11/4)
Good looking filly who improved when only headed late on at Yarmouth last month; goes handicapping now and opening mark doesn’t look too harsh at all so with further progress can get off the mark against this field.
There is likely a few improvers in here but I liked what I saw from DAME ETHEL SMYTH at Yarmouth last time and given she now goes handicapping off a mark of just 76 I think she could take a lot of beating here. The filly that beat her for Haggas Pawapuri looks a nice type and they were clear from Wonderful Times who had some solid form to her name as well. The danger is probably Albion Princess who I did like after her Ffos Las win but she was just held at Kempton last time and is another 3lb higher so will need more coming up against an improver. Nathaniel filly Oblong Song is one that should do better going forward as well but she did run a bit below form at Chelmsford and this requires more.
