Ascot 1.25

Even with superstar stayer Kyprios not running here this Long Distance Cup looks a cracker. TRUESHAN has won the last two renewals of this race with this renewal looking like one of the best he has contested. He has been thereabouts on both his last two runs behind Coltrane over further at Doncaster and third to Kyprios at Goodwood. 2 miles around Ascot seems to suit him so well and he looks the one to beat despite giving weight to some useful 3 years olds.

3 year old don’t have great records in the race but Eldar Eldarov has to be a danger to all after winning the St Leger impressively. With no obvious pace on Quickthorn may get an easy lead at this trip and they will all have to keep an eye on him.

Ascot 2.00

This can often through up a shock which is why I’ve included a saver at a monster price but I do like CREATIVE FORCE as my main play in the race. This son of Dubawi goes particularly well at this track and looked smart winning this last year from Glen Shiel. He ran on well and that is really strong form with the likes of Minzaal, Art Power and Highfield Princess all trailing in behind. He ran a cracker when denied a neck in the Platinum Jubilee and again ran well in defeat when fourth in the July Cup. Back at this track he must go close.

At a monster price (and with 5 places up for grabs with bet365) I have to give VADREAM a squeak. She beat King’s Lynn to win the Bengough Stakes over C&D last year and while she has been a bit below form this season she did show promise going down a neck at Newmarket and if the cheekpieces help spark her back into life she could look massively overpriced. Plenty of dangers likely headed by Rohaan who loves it here and Art Power who was back to form in Ireland last time.

Ascot 2.40

She may have drifted a bit in the market this week but I still think EMILY UPJOHN at her best is the one to beat here. She ran a cracker in the Oaks to lose by a short-head to Tuesday. She was really keen over course and distance in the King George so it wasn’t a surprise to see her finish down the field. Gosden has won this a couple of times and the headgear should do the trick here. If she is back to her Oaks form they will need to go some to beat her so it could be another Champions Day winner for Frankie!

3 years olds have dominated the race over the years but that isn’t to say a 4 year old won’t run a big race and LILAC ROAD looks a good saver at a big price. She has run well in Group 1s this season behind some classy fillies including the Arc winner Alpinista. She can outrun her odds here. Sea La Rosa and Eternal Peral rate the main dangers to my picks with very good form at Group level to their name already.

Ascot 3.20

All eyes will be on Inspiral here as she bids to make it 7 wins from 8 starts for John Gosden. She was an explosive winner on the round course winning the Coronation Stakes back in June but for me hasn’t been in the same form since. She was clearly below par when beaten by Prosperous Voyage in the Falmouth and again didn’t impress a great deal scraping home by a neck in France. She is a short price and might be vulnerable. I really like MODERN GAMES who won the French Guineas at the start of the season. He chased home Baaeed in the Sussex before winning the Woodbine Mile Stateside last time. He is a very talented horse who could make them all go here.

Inspiral will still be the danger but if she does blow out Jadoomi would have to be noted. He is progressive and looked good winning a Group 2 in Ireland last month, hitting the line strong. This is clearly a lot tougher but he shouldn’t be underestimated. The Revenant is often backed and has solid place claims but I’ll be amazed if he springs an upset here even though he won this 2 years ago this looks a strong renewal.

Ascot 4.00

Plenty of punters like to take on these ‘once in a lifetime’ horses due to their short prices but sometimes you just have to watch and admire and BAAEED is a prime example. He is 10 from 10 and will likely win this well. He stepped up to this trip last time and seemingly was even better for the extra distance blowing the Juddmonte field away. I expect the same again here before he retires to stud so even though to most he is unbackable I can’t put up anything against him and hopefully he bows out victorious.

Adayar gives the race a bit of depth but he will need to be better than ever to win this. He will run a big race but likely fall short of Baaeed. Of the rest Bay Bridge will likely make up the top 3 without troubling the top 2 in the market.

Ascot 4.40

I was at York when BLUE FOR YOU picked his way through to get the better of Escobar in a tight finish. He showed a great attitude on that occasion and while he was beaten here last time I don’t think it panned out too favourably for him. Back up to a mile should suit and I can see him running much better. He has a good draw and this son of New Approach looks set to run a big race with Danny Tudhope in the saddle.

Given how competitive this is I’m also going to chance ORBAAN who has form that ties in with my other selection. He beat Blue For You at Goodwood and followed up over 7f here next time out. He was behind the selection at York but franked that form going down just a short head at Goodwood last time. Given a bit of time since going back up to a mile he should be right in the mix once more. If getting the gaps at the right time may well surprise a few again here. A whole shortlist of dangers likely headed by Migration who was last seen going down a neck to Modern News at Newbury. He goes well fresh so is feared. Bashkirova is another one who is capable back in a handicap here.
