Newbury 1.50

The well bred STRIKING STAR moved like a promising horse on debut before coming through to win convincingly at Sandown. He just ran about a bit when first asked to pick up and was briefly caught in a bit of a pocket before angling out and quickening up. I thought he did that with plenty up his sleeve and it’s no surprise to see him thrown in at the deep end so soon. The harder they go here the better for him as he looks to have a high cruising speed and a nice change of gear. He will need to improve but looks sure to and this Dubawi colt could be one to keep on the right side of today and going forward.

Grey’s Monument impressed bounding clear at York and he has to be respected on that given the time he clocked as well. Lope De Vega colt Lord Of Biscay made a winning debut at Yarmouth and that race has been well advertised since as well.

Cheltenham 2.05

A really open race a with quite a few of these with a decent chance. There is one at the bottom of the weights for last years winning trainer Gordon Elliott who could well have plenty to come at this trip. MOTOWN MAGGIE ran one of her best races when stepped up to this trip over hurdles and has been given a couple of runs over fences to get her ready for this. If she improves for handicapping and the step back up to this trip she will outrun her double-figure price.

The Hollow Ginge ran his best race last season in this race finishing a head second. He ran poorly on every run outside of that so might just thrive when fresh and around Cheltenham and rates a danger to all. Tullybeg ran here yesterday and finished last of those that completed so is unlikely to take his chance here.

Newbury 2.25

I’ve always been a big fan of HAMISH so it was good to see him back up that second to Kyprios the way he did at Ascot last time. He travelled strongly and then quickened like a very smart horse. the second Cresta is a nice improving type and then third Candleford still has scope going forward so the form looks strong and he was value for more. He will relish conditions and it is no surprise to see him trading odds-on for this.

Lone Eagle is often backed but has a habit of letting supporters down and he wouldn’t be for me. Passion And Glory may pose a greater threat as he won a Listed race at Sandown back in July and was back to form when third to Siskany at Newmarket last time. He definitely has a good run in him if producing his best.

Cheltenham 2.40

I fancy PIED PIPER to turn the tables on Knight Salute in this race. They dead-heated with the latter actually awarded the race in the end. I think Pied Piper has plenty more to come and even showed his class running a big race in the Ascot Stakes over the summer. If it doesn’t get tactical his class should shine through and he is quite comfortably my most confident bet on the card.

Knight Salute with form of 11191 is the obvious danger but may not have the selection to aim at for as long this time as Jack Kennedy won’t hit the front too soon. The Dan Skelton yard are in good form and Doctor Parnassus could get involved if stepping forward from 3 to 4 but this is a tough enough ask first time out.

Doncaster 3.00

It was hard not to be impressed with the way HISPANIC settled it at the Curragh last time eventually winning by 8 lengths. He had blinkers on for the first-time and travelled like a dream before taking it up and easing clear. He looked a bundle of energy throughout and they just couldn’t live with him. While this is obviously a big step up from that he has plenty of potential now the penny has dropped and if he improves again he may well be able to serve it up to his stablemate Aesop’s Fables.

The latter looked hugely promising beating stablemate Hans Andersen on reappearance but has failed to match that since and looked a defeated horse dropping away in the Dewhurst. He has a bit to prove despite easing in grade and the value may well lie with the selection who is clearly on an upward trajectory. Bresson easily best of the rest having bumped into the exciting Remarquee at Salisbury last month.

Cheltenham 3.15

At this time of year you have to take note of anything that has raced already this season and comes here fitter than most and winning machine CLEAR THE RUNWAY certainly fits the bill. He has consistently progressed with each run and is only raised 7lb here for a 10 length win at Worcester. This is a tougher race but he clearly has more to come and won’t be far away.

It is a competitive race with Editeur Du Gite making his seasonal reappearance at a track he thrives at and rates a big danger. Willie Mullins sends over Dads Lad who back over fences could be the biggest danger as he looks as though he has more to come over the larger obstacles.

Doncaster 3.35

Aidan O’Brien is chasing a remarkable eleventh success in this race and he looks to have an outstanding chance of landing that with the exciting AUGUSTE RODIN. This colt impressed at Naas and then took the step up into Group company in his stride to win at Leopardstown. He handles testing ground and his mother Rhododendron won in it so while it might not be ideal I think he’ll be fine on it. He is said to have improved plenty again and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet.

Epictetus made a bright start winning on debut and then only missed by a neck to Silver Knott when last seen so looks a danger. King Of Steel has been pitched in at the deep end but looks a promising colt.

Cheltenham 3.50

As with all these Pertemps races they are highly competitive which is why I have had two cracks at this. The first being with PANIC ATTACK for the in-form Pipe yard. He was fourth in this race last year and runs off of just 4lb higher. I think he has improved a lot since that run and if ready to rock here will go well.

The other one I really like is AN TAILLIUR who has improved again since stepping up to the 3 miles and now a 6 year old he should have more to come. He was only out the top 2 once last season which was when he unseated his rider and I expect another big season for Jonjo’s gelding. As you would expect there are some big dangers including the fav Botox Has who goes really well round Cheltenham but was a little high in the weights for me. Salavdor Ziggy is interesting after a string on wins and last years winner Kansas City Chief at the grand old age of 13 could go well again.

Doncaster 4.10

Despite quite a bit of money coming for CAME FROM THE DARK at Ascot he failed to fire. He was held up but pulled hard in the early stages and things just didn’t pan out favourably. He has been dropped a couple of pounds since and with that under his belt there could be more to come now. He has been backed again looking at the market and given he has won second-up following wind surgery in the past it wouldn’t surprise me to see him gambled on come post time.

Given the nature of the race I’m also going to have an each way saver on DESIGNER who also ran in that Ascot race behind Manaccan finishing fifth. She could still be on an upward curve and with Ryan Sexton claiming a handy 5lb I think she could go well at a price. Plenty of dangers obviously likely headed by Lullaby Bay who was only nailed a nose by Makanah last time and is clearly still in really good form.
