Cheltenham 1.10

A tricky opener to get Cheltenham’s November meeting underway and I’m going to take a chance on HECTOR JAVILEX at a double-figure price. This lightly raced 5yo was progressive over hurdles last season winning at Southwell and Ludlow and shaped as though he needed the run when down the field at Chepstow last month. The second Outlaw Peter has won stylishly to frank the form and on handicap debut he could go close here off a mark of 123 with Lilly Pinchin claiming 3lb.

It is obviously wide open so plenty of dangers and no surprise to see Enki Flacke trading as favourite chasing a four-timer over hurdles. He was beaten on the Flat at Leopardstown but still ran well to finish fifth. He has cheekpieces on for handicap debut and could run a big race. Astigar is unexposed and also has to enter calculations back from a lengthy layoff following a wind op.

Cheltenham 1.45

This is a race where it usually pays to side with a horse that has a had a run already this season over a horse on seasonal debut. MALYSTIC ran well behind the race-fit Gold Des Bois who reopposes here at Kelso to start his season. He looks like a chaser who will improve as the season goes on as he is lightly raced. The run at Kelso should put him spot on for this and will go well at an each way price.

Another horse who I think could be a danger at a bigger price is Hasankey who ran well at Ayr on return to the track and will likely have more to come here. Amarillo Sky is the most likely danger of the horses making their seasonal debuts and will go well off a mark of 140. The Glancing Queen is the favourite at the time of writing but doesn’t always do well outside mares only events.

Cheltenham 2.20

Chris Gordon has made a fast start to the new Jumps season and he’ll be hopeful of a Cheltenham winner on Friday in the shape of UNANSWERED PRAYERS. This horse ran well without threatening on return over hurdles at Chepstow last month and that should have left him spot on for this. He has always looked like he’d make a better chaser and this is a good starting point.

Pull Again Green was well held when third to Found On here last month but is expected to leave that behind now so looks the danger. Hereditary Rule has taken well to fences and arrives here chasing a hat-trick but this does look tougher so he’ll likely need to improve again to extend his winning run. Stimulating Song desperately needed the run at Uttoxeter but should build on that in time.

Cheltenham 2.55

Plenty of these have questions to answer whether it is trip or form but one that looks solid is BALLYANDY. He seems to be thriving at trips around 3 miles and comes here after a nice season opener in September. He stayed on well in second that day and should be sharper for that run. He does well at Cheltenham, has been rated higher than this mark and will take some beating here. No great surprise to see him heading the market.

A lot of the field have to prove they are as well handicapped at this trip so the main dangers could well be Kauto Riko and at a bigger price Elegant Escape who I think is the main danger as he will be staying on strongly at the finish.

Cheltenham 3.30

This field is packed full of potential as you might expect but I’m hopeful COLLECTORS ITEM can make his presence felt. This son of Flemensfirth looks great value at 5/1 having made a winning hurdles debut at Chepstow last month. He did a fair bit wrong that day looking rough around the edges but ultimately stayed on strongly to win readily. The form looks good and with this step up in trip ideal he should prove hard to beat under Jonjo O’Neill Junior.

Hubrisko is favourite for Mullins but I think he is opposable and there is no juice in his price. He was well held at Tipperary last month and while this step up in trip should suit I think he needs more. Hermes Allen looks a greater threat after sauntering to victory at Stratford. He should have lots more to come and will give the selection a race here.

Cheltenham 4.00

With a maximum field of 20 going to post this looks a really competitive race with ALTO ALTO looking a good each way play. He only just lost out on his first run of the season by a neck at Ascot. The time before that he was behind the classy Knappers Hill which looks even better form now. He likely has a lot more to come this season and with his trainer in great form he will go well here.

Another trainer who is firing in so many winners lately is Nicky Henderson so you have to rate the chances of Rathmacknee who has form of 1332 before a wind op last season then ran out a 33-length winner. He could really be anything and rates the main danger. Of the rest Mothill and Hey Johnny will be in the mix.
