It was not the start host nation Qatar were hoping for against Ecuador as even given the slice of luck they had with Enner Valencia having a goal ruled offside they still conceded two early goals and it could so easily have been a lot more. They will be pleased they managed to keep it tight second half but no doubt another tough challenge lies in wait in Senegal.
Senegal lost their opener too but at the hands of the Netherlands and they were in that match right up until the 84th minute when they conceded two late goals and will fancy their chances against the hosts.
Senegal are pretty solid defensively and that could prove the difference here against a Qatar side that clearly find it hard to score. Ecuador managed to dictate that game and Senegal are even more physical so I only see this going one way.
Qatar never looked like threatening against Ecuador and are set to struggle going forward once more here. Mane might be out for Senegal but Diatta looked promising against Holland and will find this easier so could make the breakthrough. He looks good value to score anytime and will be supported by Boulaye Dia and Famara Diedhiou.
- They looked good and held out for 84 minutes against the Netherlands.
-Qatar will struggle to make an impact based on their opener.
- Senegal had 2 vs Netherlands.
