NAP – My best tip of the day
Exeter 12.55 Annie Magic (best price 11/8)
Promising mare who ran an encouraging race on hurdles debut to finish second at Exeter on debut under Rules; quickly improved on that to win authoritatively at Wincanton last month; can keep improving so big chance.
Hard to look past ANNIE MAGIC at Exeter on New Year’s Day. She improved on her hurdles debut to win by 9 lengths at Wincanton last time and with further improvement a near certainty she should be able to follow up here. The horse she beat the last day had looked exciting following a romp in a bumper so that form is expected to play out in time (Lime Avenue actually runs later on the card and is my Notebook). Marsh Wren won 2 of her last 3 over hurdles last season but lacks a run so should come on for this. Kentford Mallard impressed winning at Southwell back in the summer but wasn’t in the same form next time and is another one that should strip fitter for the outing.

Cheltenham 12.10 Weveallbeencaught (best price 9/4)
Expensive purchase following a point win and made a bright start winning on debut under Rules in a bumper at Newbury; good third behind Hermes Allen here; this easier and should have leading claims now.
Inexperience looked to get the better of WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT on hurdles debut here. He had Hermes Allen and Music Drive in front of him so that is very solid form. This is much easier than that and with improvement on the cards he looks well placed to open his account over timber. Gentle Slopes won 2 of his 3 in bumpers before finishing third on hurdles debut here last month. Like the selection he is also open to improvement so looks the biggest danger. Firestep is unbeaten winning both starts in bumpers but we haven’t seen him since March 2021 and even following a wind op he might need this outing and obviously lacks experience too. School Days Over also probably has more to come.
