Cheltenham 1.30

I think a combination of the return to better ground coupled with another drop in the weights could see MARADA bounce back to form. She was disappointing behind Dollar Bae at Chepstow but I don’t think she really handled the ground and a 5lb drop could prove lenient running at this track for the first time. She is a mare with a decent turn of foot so I can see her skipping off this surface and at around 14/1 at the time of writing she looks a decent each way play.

Dollar Bae would obviously be feared but the assessor applies more pressure putting her up 7lb for that Chepstow win. This is more competitive so she’ll need a big performance to follow up. Windtothelightning is on a four-timer but only prevailed by a neck at Ayr and back in a handicap will find this tougher but could still clearly go well.

Marada 14/1 each way

Newmarket 1.50

Changing Colours will probably be popular here for Appleby and Buick but he was turned over at short odds when last seen and is going to need to improve on reappearance to win this. I like PINAFORE at decent each way odds. This filly by Dark Angel continued her race-by-race progression to win head in chest at Kempton on final start as a 2yo. I loved the way she quickened that day and now pitched into a handicap there could be even more to come.

Profitable colt Kerdos won both starts as a 2yo and then bumped into the well handicapped Conquistador on return at Lingfield last month. That was a decent run so I expect him to run well for a long way here. Shouldvebeenaring also has fitness on side having gone close at Newcastle earlier in the month so is another definite each way player.

Newmarket 1.50

Pinafore 8/1 each way

Newmarket 2.25

John and Thady Gosden have won the last two renewals of this so Roaring Lion colt Enrico Caruso would have to be hugely respected. I am going to side with Sea The Stars colt NEW BUSINESS to make a winning start for Andrew Balding. This horse obviously looks the part on paper and with the yard having started the season quite well he could turn out to be the one to beat. As always with these types of races the market can prove informative so I wouldn’t want to see him unfancied.

Plenty of other nice types in here and Syllabus catches the eye. He is also by Sea The Stars and Haggas is also operating at a 20% strike rate in the past fortnight. Shadwell have Kathab who is by Kingman and again he also brings considerable potential to the table. Stoute has won this race before but not since 2005 so while Passenger could be useful in time he might do better with time and experience.

This is a race that has surprisingly evaded trainer Charlie Appleby but he has a great chance of winning it this year with CREATIVE FORCE who is a warm order at the time of writing. He only ran 5 times last season with the pick of those efforts getting within a neck of victory at Royal Ascot. He then chased home Alcohol Free to finish fourth in the July Cup before being freshened up. He was an excellent third in the Champions Sprint behind Kinross before heading Stateside to finish third in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. He was mega consistent at the top level and dropped into a Group 3 on return his class is expected to shine through.

The obvious danger looks to be Ehraz who I did fancy to get seriously competitive at Doncaster and while he didn’t run badly in third he did look a little one paced. The better ground could see him improve and I do still think he’ll emerge as the main danger. Of the rest Tiber Flow is still quite interesting and I think he can win a big pot this season so keep an eye on him in the betting as he might need this and the price he goes off will likely prove informative.

Newmarket 3.35

Charlie Appleby has won this 3 of the past 4 years with the likes of Masar, Master Of The Seas and Native Trail. He fires two bullets in Mysterious Night and Naval Power so they are both feared but I thought there was a bit of star quality about that debut run from MOSTABSHIR last year. Obviously he will need to step up markedly into Group company now but he clearly has a great deal of potential. The way he travelled and quickened at Kempton was exciting and I can’t wait to see him out again. The fact they are pitching him straight into this tells you how highly they must regard him.

Of the Godolphin pair I actually think Naval Power might be the biggest threat. He has won 5 of his 6 races to date and impressed beating One Nation over in Dubai. The Foxes ran on strongly to win here back in September last year and is another colt with significant potential to do better this season. This looks a pretty decent renewal to me as a few of these could be very smart horses going forward.

ITV Racing Lucky 15

With 5 races live on ITV Racing again on Thursday I’ve taken four of my strongest bets to make a Lucky 15. If we can land 3/4 winners we would make some decent profit. Pays 445/1!
