MY AUSTRALIAN NAP RUNS IN RACE 9 AT KILCOY ON SUNDAY MORNING!

Race 9 Kilcoy 6.45 Surreel (best price 1/1)

Tough and likeable mare who was back to her best winning from off the pace at Beaudesert last month; could still be capable of more stepping up in trip and looks the one to beat in a winnable race.

Great chance for SURREEL to follow up stepping out in trip again. She is largely unexposed and should have more to come as her stamina is drawn out. Her recent form figures of 3251 make her tough to oppose. The danger is probably Royal Performance who has won 5 times but he is largely exposed having raced 42 times now. He won’t improve any further but should still give his running as long as he stays the trip. He’s Viral has won 4 times and could be best of the rest but 0/6 at this track would be enough to put me off despite him arriving here in solid form.

Race 1 Devonport 2.30 Rubick’s Affair (best price 1/1)

Promising filly who ran an eye-catching race when third at this track on debut and then improving to go down just half a length over track and trip last time; getting better with experience.

Hard to oppose RUBICK’S AFFAIR following those first two starts. She has shown more than enough to win a race like this and if improving again is the one they all have to beat here. Valiant Khan ran a nice race when fourth on debut and if progressing could be the danger to the favourite. Ian’s Finale was only midfield on debut so will need to take a fair step forward to trouble the market principals. Geegeehailstorm was nearer last than first but it is early days so don’t entirely rule her out but I do think she’ll do better for the experience in a tough enough race here.
