Sandown 1.50
The bookies going 6/1 the field in an 11 runner race shows how competitive this is. ANNAF just edges it for me after a great run behind Bradsell in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. He seems to have really progressed throughout the year this season and a run to that level could be good enough to take this.
Marshman was behind the selection that day at Ascot and rates the main danger again. Get Ahead has the form to be involved along with Equilateral if he doesn’t try and make the pace. Last years winner Raasel drops in grade and it could see him bounce back.
Haydock 2.05
Lordship won really easily at Yarmouth last time and obviously is entitled to plenty of respect but this is tougher and he’ll likely have to come off the bridle to win so who knows if he’ll find as much as he promises. I prefer the chances of PLEDGEOFALLEGIANCE and at a bigger price. He has really come into his own since going up in trip and arrives here with a perfect record 2-2 over the trip. He stayed on gamely to win well at Doncaster last month and with more to come could complete the hat-trick.
If Lordship does disappoint it might leave Rogue Sea as the main danger. He has won 2 from 3 and the way he stayed on to win at Ripon last time he should be well suited by this trip. Banderas got up late at Chester last time and has potential too but this is a much deeper contest.
Sandown 2.25
This race at Sandown you always get a hot race with all of these in with a chance with a favourite of mine DUTCH DECOY getting a marginal vote. He has finished second in two strong handicaps here and at Epsom. He is only up 2lb for his recent second over course and distance and a run to the form of that race or the Epsom handicap would see him be in the mix and at decent odds again.
Perotto is no doubt well handicapped on old form but just doesn’t seem to be at that level currently but if he clicks into gear is a massive danger. Indemnify won over course and distance last time out and has a lot more to come so I expect him to be fighting it out at the finish.
Haydock 2.40
There was lots to like about the way MIMIKYU shaped in defeat at York back in May. That was her first start for some 224 days and she was only denied a short head at the line. I rate the winner River Of Stars who looks to have improved plenty and with more to come this daughter of Dubawi should get back to winning ways against this field.
Sea Silk Road was really disappointing on return behind Free Wind but quickly bounced back to win over C&D last month. This is tougher but she could still be the danger given she is relatively unexposed. Time Lock was behind the latter last time but still needs considering.
Sandown 3.00
I don’t think this is a strong race for a Listed event and with Breege not running STENTON GLIDER looks a good bet. She was second in the German 1,000 Guineas and ran a good second behind Remarquee who franked that form massively at Royal Ascot. She likely has more to come and if you put a line through her English 1,000 Guineas run she will take some beating.
Magical Sunset has been running well in defeat this season and would be the main danger on ratings but I do think the selection is far more consistent. Of the rest Bridestones has always had potential but I am not sure they know her best trip or ground yet so this could be interesting at a track you need to see it out well at.
Haydock 3.15
Another competitive race but I’m looking forward to seeing LA YAKEL for Haggas. This son of Time Test was hugely progressive as a 3yo winning impressively at Southwell and then following up in a good race at Ascot. He did little wrong when fourth in the Old Rowley Cup on final start and with more to offer after just a handful of starts should go close.
Cumulonimbus has fitness on side and is eyeing up a hat-trick but this will definitely test his credentials more as it is a good race on paper and he is 5lb higher again. Sheer Rocks is thoroughly likeable and he beat Caius Chorister at Epsom albeit that rival has run poorly since. He is up 5lb too and while this is tougher I can still see him running well. Teumessias Fox is another one to note if bouncing back.
Sandown 3.40
Time for the big one, the Coral Eclipse and unfortunately it has attracted a small field of 4 again which is such a shame with £750,000 of prize money on offer. PADDINGTON looked one of the best performances at Royal Ascot beating Chaldean easily. They were talking about Goodwood for him next but he is clearly in good health if running this soon. He has won his last 5 fairly well and gets weight from the whole field making him the one to beat.
Emily Upjohn is obviously a massive danger after an eye-catching win at Epsom. They went quite slow and she appeared to sprint away from them. They might not go that quick again so this trip could really suit but she does have to give weight to Paddington who is still improving. On ratings Dubai Honour could easily spring a surprise if it gets really tactical with the Haggas yard in top form. West Wind Blows will likely make the running with not much pace on but he would need to find a lot to win this.
