Haydock 1.15

There has been a lot of money for Park Hill Dancer and he has to be feared chasing a hat-trick for the in-form Nicky Henderson. This is a tough enough ask first-time out this season though and he has gone up another 8lb. I just about prefer FINGAL’S HILL who is on a five-timer after making a winning return at Carlisle at the start of the month. A 4lb rise looks fair and he should run well.

Of the rest Park Annonciade showed a good attitude to prevail at Ayr and that form has been franked with the third Ip Up winning at Fakenham next time out. Carnfunnock is also respected in a competitive race.

Fingal’s Hill 6/1 each way

Main danger Park Hill Dancer

Ascot 1.30

I can’t wait to see SHISHKIN back and I’m very hopeful he can make a winning return. He ran a screamer when second to Envoi Allen in the Ryanair and then impressed up in trip at Aintree on final start. We know he goes well fresh and he loves this track so he ticks plenty of boxes. If his jumping holds up and he gets into a nice rhythm I can’t see him beat.

Pic D’orhy is capable of making a race of it but he was beaten 16 lengths by Shiskin in the Betfair Ascot Chase so is likely up against it. I think he only wins if Shishkin runs below par which will likely only happen if he doesn’t jump well. The other pair have tons to find.

Ascot 1.30

Shishkin 4/6

Main danger Pic D’orhy

Haydock 1.50

Gaillard Du Mesnil is a tremendous horse and looking at his CV it is hard to accept he is just a 7yo. He will go well here but he is better over further and has to give a lot of weight away which won’t be an easy task. I am going to chance the likeable mare APPLE AWAY now sent chasing. She was thoroughly progressive over hurdles last season winning her last 3 and hopes are high for the season ahead.

Of the rest Grey Dawning is worth a mention as he has potential over fences. I was a bit underwhelmed by that third to Stay Away Fay at Exeter though and he might need more time and experience before we see the best of him.

Apple Away 5/2

Ascot 2.05

Goshen and Theatre Glory are vying for favouritism at the time of writing but BLUEKING D’OROUX should have a great chance of taking this. He struggled initially for this yard but following a wind op put in a much improved performance to spring a 50/1 surprise at this track back in April. He then bumped into Punctuation at Aintree which was a huge run.

He reportedly did well over the summer and it was good to see him win convincingly at Cheltenham on return last month. That form has already been boosted with the runner-up Jilaijone running well behind Gin Coco yesterday and even the fifth Mr Mackay finishing a good fourth to Impose Toi at Cheltenham. This is tougher but he is improving and could surprise a few.

Haydock 2.20

This looks a really good race but I still think CRAMBO will take a bit of beating. He has won 3 of his last 4 now and impressed winning with a fair bit in hand on reappearance at Aintree last month. That should leave him spot on for this and he is understandably going to be sent off favourite.

Slate Lane is on a five-timer but a further 14lb rise is certainly going to demand more. He might have more to come so is the danger but this is a big ask. Of the rest Gowel Road at a price could surprise a few and hit the frame.

Haydock 2.20

Crambo 7/2

Main danger Slate Lane

Punchestown 2.35

Impossible to look past STATE MAN here and I thought he’d actually be even shorter in the betting such are his claims. His only defeat when completing came at the hands of Constitution Hill at the Cheltenham Festival and he quickly put that behind him winning readily at Punchestown. He is a very smart horse and I don’t see these 3 rivals troubling him.

If you are looking for a forecast bet then there might be value in backing Pied Piper to finish second. He has won at this track before and back hurdling I can see him running well behind the favourite.

Punchestown 2.35

State Man 1/3

No dangers

Haydock 3.00

I know BRAVEMANSGAME was turned over at Wetherby but he clouted the last and just seemed to need the run. I expect him to be a lot sharper here and if his jumping is slick he will return to winning ways. His overall record is pretty impressive and he is unbeaten at this track. If he gets into a rhythm early I think it’ll be pretty straightforward.

Protektorat is obviously capable having won this last year but the yard are under a cloud at the moment and that would be a bit concerning. I think that’s why we’ve seen the market move so positively towards the Nicholls’ runner. The other pair are plenty talented but likely still up against it.

Haydock 3.00

Bravemansgame 10/11

Main danger Protektorat

Ascot 3.15

The talented and likeable BOOTHILL made a winning return last year before following up in this race and after bolting up by 4 lengths on return I think he is set to repeat the dose. He looked better than ever beating First Flow at the start of the month and despite going up 6lb looks the one they all have to beat again.

Saint Segal was back in third the last day and he might be the one to chase him home. Corrigeen Rock is on a hat-trick and is also noted.

Ascot 3.15

Boothill 5/2 NAP

Main danger Saint Segal

Haydock 3.35

A competitive race to close out but FAMOUS BRIDGE looks the one to side with. He won his last two over fences and seemed to be progressing well. He was beaten on return but went down less than a length and with that under his belt he should resume his progress now as is still armed with a fair bit of potential.

Docpickedme was a good second on return only run down in the closing stages and if building on that will give the selection most to think about. Coconut Splash at a big price is another one that might be able to get competitive in terms of hitting the frame.

Famous Bridge 3/1
