After going down narrowly to Triple Trade here last month CALICO must be of strong interest to go one better now. He is an out and out 2 miler and a 4lb rise looks fair for that three-quarters of a length defeat given the winner has run notably well at Ascot since. He will be ridden forward and if all goes to plan he should prove tough to reel in late on.

In Excelsis Deo was a good third to Dancing On My Own here on reappearance and if improving looks the danger. Funambule Sivola is another one to note.

This is fiercely competitive but it is hard to get away from THUNDER ROCK given the way he hit the line at Carlisle on reappearance last month. He won very easily and the runner-up Mahler Mission has come out and franked the form finishing an excellent second to Datsalrightgino at Newbury a couple of weeks ago. He looks on an upward curve and there is plenty to like.

So Scottish is a horse who could still be capable of better and this Irish raider is feared most. He was well held on reappearance but is expected to leave that behind with this having been the target. Il Ridoto was a very good third to Stage Star and must also have a chance.

I know CRUZ CONTROL was a bit workmanlike at Newcastle last month but that was just his third start over fences and he is a horse learning all the time. He kept finding more to repel Glory And Honour who is a useful enough yardstick and I think he’ll improve plenty again. He is 5lb higher but is going the right way now and I can see him surprising a few in this as competitive as it looks. Mister Who looks the one likely to go forward and I don’t think he’ll be too far off it.

The latter might actually be the main danger as he ran well beaten just 2 lengths on chase debut at Lingfield last month and will come on plenty for that and is still really lightly raced.

There was lots to like about the way the scopey BROADWAY BOY galloped his rivals into submission at this track last month. He has won 2 from 3 over fences now and with more to come sent handicapping off a mark of 146 I can see him following up here. He seems to find plenty off the bridle and that should count for plenty in the closing stages here with the ground stamina sapping. There is no obvious pace on so I think he’ll be ridden aggressively again and hopefully he proves hard to catch.

City Chief shaped well when fourth on return and could be the danger. Threeunderthrufive is another one I expect to get competitive.

I am really strong on one here in the shape of RARE EDITION for Charlie Longsdon. This horse goes notably well fresh and looked progressive early on last season. He was highly tried and somewhat lost his way but he still retains potential and if bouncing back it would be no great surprise to see him win this off a mark of 136.

Gin Coco is another horse I like and he impressed finding more to prevail at Ascot last month. He is a bit short in the betting though and that was enough to sway my opinion. I expect the pair to battle it out with perhaps Matchless best of the rest at a price.

Obviously SHANAGH BOB was entitled to win as he did at Plumpton last month given the odds he went off but I liked the way he warmed to the task on hurdles debut and he ran on strongly at the finish to score by 7 lengths. He could have gone round again if needed and I expect him to relish this step up in trip.

The softer ground will be a welcome too and while this is tougher he obviously brings tons of potential to the table. The danger could be Cadell who is also still learning his trade and should improve again.

With that reappearance run under his belt SAIL AWAY looks worth chancing here. He needed a run last season before bolting up at Ayr and connections will be hopeful of the same here. A mark of 144 should be well within reach and at around 11/2 he looks a decent each way bet. Fergus Gillard claims a handy 3lb too so lots to like.

Mister Coffey seems to have tons of ability but saves plenty for himself. He was only fourth behind Broadway Boy at Cheltenham on return last month and needs to leave that behind to have a chance. He is off a dangerous mark but I’m struggling to warm to him. Perhaps Whistleinthedark will be a greater danger but he needs to prove he can stay.

The talented BONTTAY might not be the most straightforward but she impressed getting her head in front at Hereford last month and remains unexposed moving up to 2 and a half miles for the first time. She should have lots more to come and with the yard going well I’m keen to keep her on side against these.

Nurse Susan shaped with promise back from a lengthy absence and just got tired late on at Exeter. She can strip fitter and her mark is likely workable so she could be the danger. Theatre Glory is obviously another one to note.
