Cheltenham 1.15

A wide open handicap chase to kick off a really good program on ITV on Saturday! I like EXCELLO to run a big race in the opener for Nicky Henderson and James Bowen. He relished the switch to fences to win readily at Ascot last month and now sent handicapping off a mark of 144 I expect him to run big again. There is plenty of pace on as you’d expect but he will likely be up there with it and that could turn out to be a positive.

Victtorino is eyeing up a hat-trick and has been well backed this morning. He looks the danger but needs to prove he can handle the drop back to 2 and a half miles. Il Ridoto won this off 10lb lower last year and ran a cracker when going close missing out by just a short head here last month.

Cheltenham 1.15

Excello 15/2 each way

Cheltenham 1.50

I have loved what I’ve seen from STAY AWAY FAY over fences so far and with further improvement to come I think he is the one to beat again. He steps out of novice company for the first time so this is no easy task but he is such a likeable horse who just finds tons off the bridle. He was obviously suited by this track winning the Albert Bartlett here last year and has plenty going for him again.

The Real Whacker was given a tough task here on reappearance and then bounced back to form when fourth in the King George. He looks the danger as this is obviously easier and he remains lightly raced.

Doncaster 2.05

Trainer Willie Mullins has the first two in the betting and I’m keen to side with ASHROE DIAMOND with Patrick Mullins in the saddle. This mare has some decent form to her name. She was impressive beating Jetara at Fairyhouse last year and followed up at the top level at that venue again back in April. She was a solid third to Teahupoo on return and given this is easier should get back to winning ways.

Stablemate Gala Marceau progressed well last season beating Lossiemouth at DRF before running well at Cheltenham and Punchestown behind that rival. She was impressive in France when last seen and could still do better so should make a race of it.

Cheltenham 2.25

It’s a shame we won’t see El Fabiolo lining up here but in some ways I’m quite happy as means I’ll see him at the DRF next weekend. This should be straightforward for JONBON now and I expect him to notch up his fifth win in a row. His only two defeats have come at the hands of Constitution Hill in the Supreme and El Fabiolo in the Arkle so he is impossible to oppose.

There might be some value in Fugitif chasing him home. He did really well to beat Il Ridoto here last time and with the cheekpieces back on should be running on well at the finish and might pick up the pieces for second.

Jonbon 1/2

Doncaster 2.40

I thought WELCOM TO CARTRIES was a bit unlucky to lose at Ascot on hurdles debut so he could arguably be coming here unbeaten. He improved again to win impressively up in trip last time and now up to 3 miles we should see an even better performance. He remains an exciting prospect and I’m keen to keep him on side today and going forward.

Destroytheevidence is likeable and beat all bar the promising Shanagh Bob at Cheltenham last month which is strong form so he should give the selection most to think about. Range impressed winning at Chepstow and while this is a fair bit tougher he is open to improvement as well and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him run well.

Cheltenham 3.00

I can’t wait to see LOSSIEMOUTH again. She won 4 from 5 last season with her sole defeat coming at the hands of her stablemate at the Dublin Racing Festival. She readily reversed that form at the Festival and then capped off a fine season with another win at Punchestown. She has more to come and is expected to make a winning reappearance here.

Love Envoi is a decent rival and she didn’t run badly in testing conditions at Sandown. Some of her form is very good so she should run well and perhaps make a race of it for a while. Rubaud bumped into Constitution Hill last time and is another horse in very good form.

Cheltenham 3.00

Lossiemouth 5/6

Main danger Love Envoi

Doncaster 3.15

Another fiercely competitive handicap chase but I’m really keen on FAMOUS BRIDGE for Nicky Richards and Sean Quinlan. He looked to need the run beaten less than a length on reappearance at Ayr but has really progressed since winning gamely at Haydock and then following up at that venue again last month. He has now won 4 of his last 5 over fences and even 4lb higher looks to have plenty going for him again.

Kandoo Kid is interesting going up to this trip as he shaped as though he’d love it when winning at Newbury last month taking a while to get going. He didn’t do much wrong at Ascot when second to Djelo and should run well. Twoshotsoftequila bumped into Hello Judge and then Some Scope before running creditably here in third last time and is also a lively each way player.

Cheltenham 3.35

Grand National hero NOBLE YEATS could take a bit of beating in the finale. He pulled up on return a couple of years ago before winning his next two. I expect him to come on plenty from that second at Limerick and back up in trip could be galloping on strongly when the others have cried enough. I thought he’d be favourite so the 4/1 at the time of writing seems decent enough value.

12yo Paisley Park has been beaten just a head and a short head in his two runs this season and deserves another big one. He’ll be hitting the line hard and is the obvious danger if backing that latest performance up. Dashel Drasher doesn’t know how to run a bad race and will also likely be bang there throughout.
