Newmarket 1.50
There have been quite a few upsets on the Rowley Mile this week already so you won’t blame me for going for a 12/1 chance in the shape of WOODHAY WONDER here for Tom Ward. Now this filly won 3 of her last 4 starts as a 2yo and looked really progressive. She goes handicapping now but there could easily be more to come and Im surprised she has been somewhat overlooked in the market.
Plenty of dangers probably headed by City House for James Fanshawe. This Night Of Thunder colt won head in chest at Kempton on handicap debut so despite the 13lb rise could have more to offer. Gamekeeper also has claims with a run under his belt already.

Cheltenham 2.05
Wide open handicaps are the story of the day and we have another one here. I do like the chances of LA RENOMMEE though for Dr Richard Newland. This mare had a tough task in a good race at Kelso last month so I wouldn’t read too much into that. She will find this much easier and if bouncing back to form at this venue she should be a big player off a mark of 127. She is still unexposed over this trip over fences so I think she’s got a decent chance of being involved.
Juniper is a 10yo now but she is thriving having won so easily at Taunton and then Wincanton last time so she looks the danger in her hat-trick bid with Harry Cobden in the saddle again. Shirocco’s Dream is another one I can see getting competitive.
Newmarket 2.25
The Wood Ditton is always a guessing game with a field full of debutants so tread carefully but a tentative vote does go to PADESHA for Amo Racing. This colt holds plenty of fancy entries and he cost some €300,000 as a yearling. He is a half-brother to Sparkling Beauty and should be plenty forward with connections usually targeting these early pots.
Again hard to say who is the main danger so keep a close eye on the betting but Dubawi colt Lead Artist catches the eye on paper. He is very well related and should have a say in the finish. First Conquest has already been gelded but is being nibbled at so is another one to note.
Cheltenham 2.40
Another competitive race but I like LAVIDA ADIVA for Ruth Jefferson. She impressed winning by a wide margin at Catterick back in December and while she has been beaten twice since she hasn’t been disgraced and is less exposed than most so if improving would have a major shout. This trip looks ideal and the ground should be perfect so I don’t think they’ll be too many excuses.
Cottie has come down the weights and must be feared with Dan Skelton hunting down the trainers championship. Notnowlinda is a stablemate to the latter and has a 7lb claimer booked so is another one in with a squeak in an open contest.
Newmarket 3.00
I thought that was a really encouraging return over 7f from SHOULDVEBEENARING. He was beaten just 2 lengths and with that under his belt he should be spot on for this cutting back to 6f. He should have more to offer as a 4yo and I know connections are bullish of a big run too.
Plenty of dangers in a race like this likely headed by Spycatcher who had a really good season last year and ended on a high chasing home Art Power and Kinross in the Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot. He should have more to come and will run well. At a massive price Popmaster is another one I can see running well as he was really consistent towards the end of last season.
Newmarket 3.35
I’m looking forward to seeing NATIVE APPROACH out again. He caught the eye going down just half a length on debut and then quickly improved to win impressively up to a mile last time. He still looks a work in progress and with further improvement to come he should make it 2 wins from 3 starts. He holds plenty of fancy entires and could be a nice prospect.
Alcantor is currently second favourite but Eben Shaddad looks to have stronger form and is my idea of the main danger.
