Newbury 1.50
With just the 4 rivals to beat this looks a great opportunity for ALYANAABI to get himself back in the winners enclosure. This Too Darn Hot colt won 2 of his first 3 starts and looked promising before bumping into City Of Troy in the Dewhurst. He was highly tried on reappearance finishing fifth in the Guineas and again was handed a tough ask at Royal Ascot last month. He is a very smart horse and down in grade and up in trip should have all the answers.
Al Aasy is also a useful operator but he is a 7yo now and does have a bit to prove. I guess he goes well fresh though and he can’t be ignored with Tom Marquand getting the leg up. Phantom Flight perhaps best of the rest but his hopes will be pinned on getting a soft lead and staying there.
C&D winner PYFFO looks set to go off favourite for this and he should have a great chance to complete the hat-trick. He has already won 3 from 5 this year and again impressed with how he got on top at Uttoxeter last month. He is 5lb higher again but his form is stacking up and he could stamp his class on this field.
Flying Fortune went down just half a length at Southwell and then bumped into Gale Mahler at Uttoxeter so looks the danger if building on that again back in handicap company. Faithfulflyer is another one in with a squeak despite needing to bounce back.
Newbury 2.25
Attention turns to the stayers now and PRYDWEN should have a great chance of going close. He has looked at his best since his stamina has been drawn out and he won a couple of nice pots last season at Newcastle and Southwell. Back from a break he finished last at Royal Ascot but that was obviously a tough ask and back in handicap company he looks a big player here.
Kyle Of Lochalsh was a long way behind the selection at Newcastle back in March but won next time out at Salisbury and then ran well when third at Royal Ascot so looks the danger despite possibly having a bit to find. Temporize is tough and likeable and is also noted.
Market Rasen 2.40
This is arguably the toughest race of the day so a tentative vote goes to FRINGILL DIKE at a double-figure price. He impressed winning readily at Bangor on penultimate start and then didn’t do a great deal wrong bumping into Coastguard Station at Uttoxeter last time. Back over hurdles off an 8lb lower mark he certainly has a chance to get involved and is being largely overlooked.
Kihavah has been running well on the Flat and back hurdling with the ground ideal he could be a danger. Black Poppy was a good second at Cheltenham before struggling at Kempton. Back in a handicap he is another one to note back from a break.
Newbury 3.00
I have backed REGIONAL the last twice and I’m not about to abandon him now! He went down less than a length in Ireland on reappearance and then backed that up finishing just a length back in second at Royal Ascot last month. A repeat of that may well see him back in the winners enclosure and he is a hard horse to find weaknesses in.
Elite Status bolted up over C&D and despite not being seen since looks the danger. He probably needs things to go his way but he certainly isn’t one to ignore. Twilight Calls is becoming a ‘nearly’ horse but definitely has place claims.
Another tricky race over Jumps but STATUARIO looks a good each way bet to go close in the Summer Plate. He has won his last two starts at Perth and despite a 9lb rise could still run a big race at a decent price. He finished third in this a couple of years ago off a much lower mark but is clearly a more developed horse now and if things pan out favourably he has definitely been overlooked.
Boombawn looked good winning at Kempton and Warwick earlier in the year and was a good second to the smart Matterhorn at Worcester last time so is definitely one of the dangers. Soul Icon is another one I can see being in there pitching at the finish.
No surprise to see IT AIN’T TWO top the betting for this. She won 2 of her first 3 before finishing fourth in Listed company at Newmarket. She improved to chase home Aesterius at Sandown when last seen in the Dragon Stakes and with more to come again and Oisin Murphy booked she should take a bit of beating.
Vingegaard made a winning start at Chepstow and then wasn’t disgraced to finish fifth in the Windsor Castle so looks the danger. Time For Sandals did well to win on debut and is another one to note.
