York 1.50

A wide open sprint to kick off York’s Ebor Festival so it won’t surprise you that I’ve taken two against the field. HOLKHAM BAY is definitely my strongest bet of the pair as he has been thriving of late winning over 6f at this track back in June and then following up impressively at Ascot when last seen. He is 10lb higher but Brandon Wilkie takes off 5lb and he could run a big race.

The other one I like is the 3yo SHAGRAAN for Mick Appleby. This son of Sioux Nation finally came good again at Glorious Goodwood and with more to come could be up to going close despite a 5lb rise. Plenty of dangers with perhaps Jm Jungle topping the list. He was a good fifth behind Tatterstall at Glorious Goodwood last time and has a big run in him.

York 2.25

There was a lot of hype surrounding RULING COURT ahead of his debut at Sandown and he certainly didn’t disappoint. He actually displayed clear signs of inexperience early on in that race but once he picked up the bridle he cut through the pack and really powered through the line. William Buick struggled to pull him up and he is clearly an exciting prospect going forward.

Sea The Stars colt The Lion In Winter impressed winning easily on debut at the Curragh and looks the danger off the back of that. Yaroogh has also looked good winning his last two but this is a big step up on that bare form but he might be one for the future so I’m interested to see how he runs here. Wimbledon Hawkeye is another one likely fighting it out for a place at best.

York 2.25

Ruling Court 6/5

Main danger The Lion In Winter

York 3.00

Los Angeles will likely be popular here having won 4 of his 5 starts to date now but he is fairly one paced and it might pay to side with the value in KING’S GAMBIT for Harry Charlton. I don’t think he was seen to best effect at this track last month and it was a very tactical affair. He was unlucky at Royal Ascot before that and he could still have a lot more to come. With a fair bit of pace on here I think he’ll be the one finishing best.

Illinois is the second string for Aidan O’Brien but he shouldn’t be overlooked as he impressed at Ascot and then ran well at the top level in France when last seen. He is still lightly raced so could have more to come as well. Space Legend had looked promising running well behind Meydaan and Calandagan after that Leicester romp but he was poor at Newmarket so has a lot to prove off the back of that.

York 3.00

King’s Gambit 9/4 NOTEBOOK

Main danger Los Angeles

York 3.35

I know CITY OF TROY was workmanlike in the Eclipse at Sandown last month but I don’t think the ground helped. I can’t get that Derby win out my head as he was so impressive with the way he swept to the front. He has now won 5 from 6 and may well live up to his superstar status. He probably wants a mile and a half now but he has the class to win over this trip and I’m finding him impossible to oppose.

Bluestocking did little wrong chasing home Goliath last month and could put up the most resistance but Alflaila is another one to note as he beat King’s Gambit at this track last month and while it was a blanket finish it was still a good effort. The French horse Calandagan has won his last 3 and is another one to note as he would have been targeted at this.

York 3.35

City Of Troy 5/4 NAP

Main dangers Bluestocking and Alflaila

York 4.10

Time for the stayers to shine and I’m confident GREAT BEDWYN can run a big race. I was impressed with that win over Lieber Power at Newbury on penultimate start and then he did little wrong in defeat going down less than a length to Align The Stars and Fairbanks at Glorious Goodwood when last seen. He remains well handicapped and if improving stepping up to 2 miles for the first time he will have a big shout in the outcome here.

Divine Comedy caught the eye at Doncaster and then improved up to this trip to win impressively at Haydock. She did little wrong going down narrowly to Pledgeofallegiance at Royal Ascot and freshened up with this in mind looks the danger. Knightswood ties in with that Glorious Goodwood form and is another one in with a chance.

York 4.10

Great Bedwyn 7/1 each way

Main danger Divine Comedy
