Cheltenham Tips: Showcase Meeting Best Bets for Saturday

Day two of The Showcase. I’ve got a bet in all seven races at Cheltenham, a novice chaser NAP and a 10/1 win double to tie it together.

Tips are opinion, not guarantees. GYTO may earn commission from bet365 links on this page. 18+

Storm Austen and Storm Boelo are both threatening Saturday’s racing, so fingers crossed the action goes ahead! I’ll be honest, it isn’t the most exciting Saturday card Cheltenham has ever put on, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find a few winners at decent prices.

The Handicap Chase takes centre stage with over £50K up for grabs, and Tristan Durrell has picked up a big ride for Dan Skelton. He’s a young jockey on the up and should have a big season. Just like Friday, it’s notebooks at the ready. Every price below is clickable and drops the bet straight into your bet365 slip.

Joe Tizzard’s team are flying so it’s no shock LISBANE PARK heads the market. This son of Walk In The Park was consistent all last season, finishing fourth behind Old Park Star and then going close at Exeter and Newbury.

He was running into the right horses and back up in trip, with a bit of improvement, he’s a big player. 10/3 to start the day.

Main danger: Spectacularsunrise Bolted up first time out at Perth and has fitness on his side if he builds on that. As Legends Have It ended last season with back-to-back wins and is another to note.

Road To Wembley will probably be favourite but I’m not putting my faith in him, so KASHCHEI is the one to take him on with. He won readily at Downpatrick and then only went down by a couple of lengths at Clonmel at the start of the month.

His form is rock solid and another run like that puts him right in the thick of it. Better value than the jolly at 9/4.

Main danger: Newbrook Diamond Won at Wexford and Cartmel before a flat run at Worcester. He goes well fresh and could easily bounce back here.

I’ve always liked ACE OF SPADES and I still think he’s well treated ahead of his return. He loves this track and he won first time out 12 months ago, so the absence doesn’t worry me one bit.

I’m expecting a big run and 9/2 each way is a fair price.

Main danger: Idaho Fire Won his last two and has more to come over this sort of trip, so he should make a race of it. Moon Rocket lost his way late last season but still has the ability to run well.

The feature race with over £50K on offer, and DIAMOND DEALER looks a cracking ride for young Tristan Durrell, who’s going places. It all clicked for this horse at Kelso where he won impressively.

There’s more to come at this trip, he’s still unexposed and the yard will have had this race in mind, so the lack of a run doesn’t bother me. I expect a massive run at 13/2 each way.

Main danger: Uncle Bert Capable if his jumping holds up, but that’s a big if. Katate Dori is finally getting a chance from the handicapper and could get involved.

NORTH SHORE looked to me like he needed the run when fourth in the Persian War at Chepstow. He’s still a horse with plenty of potential and his mark probably doesn’t do him justice.

If he steps forward from that, and I think he will, he’s got a major chance. My Next Best at 11/4.

Main danger: Lord Byron Finished behind the selection in the Persian War but also looked like the run would bring him on, so he’s the one to beat. Indian River didn’t find much off the bridle first time back but still has a chance.

My NAP. Yes, DERRYHASSEN PADDY got beaten on his chasing debut at Ayr last season, but only three went to post and it was a muddling race. Don’t read too much into it.

I’m confident he’ll jump much better this time, and stepping up in trip on just his second start over fences should suit. This looks the ideal starting point and I think he’ll be very hard to beat at 2/1.

Main danger: Catchintsavo Won two of his last four over hurdles and could have a bright future over fences, so he’s the danger despite his lack of experience. Butch Cassidy is on a hat-trick and has a squeak.

It’s a bumper, so no strong opinion, but NEWGROVE impressed in his point and I hear the yard can’t wait to get him going. There’s plenty of potential in this field but he could be one of the best of them.

The market has noticed too. Notebooks out for this one, and a small each way bet at 4/1 to finish.

Main danger: Ballycrystal Boy Should be plenty forward for Jamie Snowden. Stoner’s Sister may be the yard’s second string but catches the eye and might be value to hit the frame.

My Cheltenham Saturday Win Double

I’m expecting NORTH SHORE to step forward a lot from that Persian War run, and he’s got the potential to be a very nice horse. I’ve doubled him with DERRYHASSEN PADDY, who could have a really bright future over fences and hopefully starts showing it here. Together they pay 10/1.

JOE’S VERDICT

DERRYHASSEN PADDY is the bet of the day with NORTH SHORE close behind. Add DIAMOND DEALER at 13/2 each way in the big one and ACE OF SPADES each way, and we could have a cracking afternoon. WEATHER PERMITTING, LET’S HAVE A BIG SATURDAY!
