THE NAP (BEST BET) WON YESTERDAY AND RUNS AT HEREFORD ON MONDAY AFTERNOON!

Hereford 1.40 Benson (11/10)

Still green when opening his account over hurdles over this C&D last month; had to just wait for a gap but picked up well and was always doing enough at the finish; sure to improve from that and difficult to get away from even under a penalty.

Some may have viewed the way BENSON won over C&D last month as workmanlike but for me he was very much learning on the job and he just had to wait until he saw daylight before he picked up. I liked how he asserted and for me he was well in command at the finish. Of course he’ll need to improve to win this under a penalty but I think he can. He should travel sweetly and with Conundrum likely to go off hard early he should have a decent target to aim at in the closing stages. A Distant Place is the danger as he shaped well when fourth at Newton Abbot and can do better now. I think the favourite sets a solid standard though and I’ll be surprised if he improves enough to beat him.

Plumpton 2.30 The Brothers (6/4)

First-time cheekpieces seemed to bring him alive when winning at Fontwell last time and with Harry Cobden keeping the ride he looks to have a massive chance of following up under a 3lb rise; sure to go close.

This looks a great opportunity on paper for THE BROTHERS to go in again. He was hugely consistent before deservedly getting off the mark over fences at Fontwell on reappearance. He can build on that and off such a small rise will take a lot of beating if turning up in the same form. Harry Cobden keeps the ride which is a notable positive and hopefully he can reward favourite backers. It’s hard to pinpoint an exact danger as it’s fiercely competitive past him but perhaps Vicenzo Mio will be staying on when the others have cried enough. I can’t really see him winning but that’s because I’m so sweet on the fav but he goes well over this C&D and could run a big race.
