NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS ON THE AW AT CHELMSFORD ON SATURDAY NIGHT!
Chelmsford 8.20 Mack The Knife (6/4)
Improving fast and comes here chasing a four-timer after always doing enough to prevail narrowly at Southwell last month; should be happier at this track and can unlock further improvement stepping up in trip.
I don’t think a mark of 64 is out of reach for MACK THE KNIFE stepping up to 1m6f for the first time. I know he only just scrapped home by a neck at Southwell last time but I think he won despite the surface on that occasion and back on Polytrack he can continue his upward progression. He hacked up at Kempton and I think that’s the form to focus on. This certainly demands more up 9lb but he is a well bred son of Australia and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t prove a cut above these. He has the sort of profile I can see people wanting to take on so it won’t surprise me if he drifts but I’ll be keeping the faith and I’ll probably go in again if he touches around 2/1. Minster is probably the main danger to the selection.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS OVER JUMPS AT HEREFORD ON SATURDAY!
Hereford 4.37 Maskada (13/8)
Likeable mare who put in a big performance to win impressively at Newbury in January, making all the running staying on strongly; lost nothing in defeat when second to Pyramid Place at Catterick last month and hard to oppose.
I’m surprised MASKADA isn’t odds-on here. I think her form is on a different level to Strike Hollow and she is by far and away the most likely winner. She showed what she is capable of at Newbury bolting up from Miss Heritage who is a very useful yardstick. She probably backed that up in defeat last time bumping into a nice horse in Pyramid Place and back in calmer waters she should have too much all round speed and stamina for these. Strike Hollow could be well handicapped but her profile doesn’t convince and unless she gets a lot of rain overnight I’m strongly against. I actually think Sacre Coeur is a bigger danger. She was out her depth in a Grade 2 last time but back over hurdles should run her race.
