Race 7 Randwick 6.05 April Rain (10/11)

Smart mare who has won 3 already from just 5 starts; denied a neck on return from 3 months off the track going down narrowly at Gosford earlier this month; can keep improving and better draw so lots to like.

The Aussie NAP landed overnight and we head to Randwick on Saturday where the progressive APRIL RAIN can get back in the winners enclosure. She is 3 from 5 and looks to have plenty more to come yet. She had a lot to do last time back from 3 months off the track and did well to get as close as she did. With a bit more luck she’d have won so it’s easy to see why she is a warm order for this from a better draw. Knight didn’t handle the softer going when last seen and had previously recorded some good form. He looks the biggest danger to the selection but is more than likely going to set it up for her. Canasta has 5 wins from 17 starts and looks best of the rest. Run well fresh before so squeak.

Race 7 Eagle Farm 6.18 Explosive Jack (13/8)

Progressive colt who has gone from strength to strength and comes here chasing a hat-trick; won the Sydney and Adelaide equivalents and is 2-2 over this trip so ticks plenty of boxes; one to keep safe.

This should be a cracking race between EXPLOSIVE JACK and Senor Toba and while I have a lot of respect for the latter I have to be with the former as he looks to land his fourth Derby. He is a perfect 2 from 2 over this trip and they haven’t reached the bottom of him yet. He got far enough back last time but thundered home and really was quite impressive. Sagacious, Achiever and Maranoa all have the potential to push forward and that should really help set it up for the selection in the closing stages. Senor Toba is the obvious danger as mentioned but Let’s Karaka Deel is also entitled to be on the premises having been knocking on the door the last three times finishing second.
