THE AUSSIE NAP (BEST BET) WON OVERNIGHT AND RUNS AT NEWCASTLE ON SATURDAY!

Race 8 Newcastle 7.15 Matterhorn (5/6)

Promising sort who made the perfect start for his new yard winning on his Aussie debut over C&D earlier this month; showed a great attitude to run on strongly from off the pace and score by a nose; fitter now and hard to oppose.

He is up in class here but even so MATTERHORN has a progressive look to his profile and his claims are crystal clear to me. He won’t be far away from the speed and I can see him finishing best of all. He will be hitting peak fitness now after a promising win on return and he has plenty in favour again. Windsweep is a nice filly who brings winning form to the table but a place might be her best bet. Finally Realise has just 1 win from 12 starts but has 5 placings so can also go well without threatening the market leader. A big field but not a lot of strength in depth. Unpredicted appeals out of those at bigger odds but he is going to need to take another step forward in a race as competitive as this to place.

Race 3 Belmont 6.17 Aberdeen Queen (5/4)

Talented mare who returned with a convincing win before doing well from a wide gate finishing strongly only beaten narrowly over shorter here; got too far back last time; good draw here and ticks plenty of boxes.

There’s a lot to like about the chances of ABERDEEN QUEEN here and I’ll be surprised if she’s beaten. She has won over this trip and judging by her last two efforts she should be picking these up in the closing stages from a better draw. It will allow her to get well positioned and travel into it before showing that turn of foot that has seen her win 5 times already. Beat The Bro has just 2 wins from 16 starts so while he can run well I’ll be surprised if he can get the better of the selection. He’d need it all to drop right and even then the selection should be thundering home. Crescent City won at Northam last time and that was a nice effort but this is definitely tougher so he needs more for sure.
