Newbury 5.05 Semper Augustus (2/1)
Good looking chestnut who stayed on strongly to win over a mile here in June; takes a bit of winding up and got going too late at Yarmouth next time; too much to do at York latest; should relish this extra yardage and more to come yet.
The NAP was back in the winners enclosure last night so hopefully we can add another winner before we head into the weekend. We’re off to Newbury on Friday and SEMPER AUGUSTUS can get back to winning ways. This son of Dutch Art really impressed over a mile here in June and has had excuses the last twice. Stepping up in trip again here is only going to see him improve again and he has more to come yet. Angels Roc is a likeable type and he should keep the selection honest at least. He is still a maiden somehow but has been hinting that his turn might be near soon going down just half a length at Epsom last month. Looks most likely to finish second again.

Curragh 4.55 Strong Johnson (3/1)
Likeable type who gained a deserved success over this trip at Tipperary last week, making all the running in good style; struck twice over this C&D as a 4yo so it suits him well and big chance despite a career-high mark now; worth chancing.
I’ve been a fan of STRONG JOHNSON for a while now and it was good to see him back in the winners enclosure at Tipperary last week. He was quick on to the lead and was always dictating holding on well enough in the closing stages. He is turned out fairly quickly here but is clearly thriving and I think it looks a good opportunity for him to follow up. There isn’t much juice in his price at 3/1 as this is still competitive but I’m confident he is the one to beat again. Rough Diamond is lightly raced but I think 5f is on the sharp side for him, especially as he likes to be held up. If he gets the splits maybe he’ll be on the premises but enough to prove for me. Indigo Balance third to the fav latest, needs more.
