THE NAP (BEST BET) WON YESTERDAY AND RUNS AT ASCOT ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Ascot 2.40 Buzz (11/8)
Classy sort who chased home Abacadabras in a Grade 1 at Aintree to cap off a good season; impressive winner of the Cesarewitch at Newmarket last month; more to come over hurdles so hard to oppose here given he has fitness on side.
With his two main market rivals lacking fitness and having something to prove BUZZ looks a really strong play here. He was an impressive winner of the Cesarewitch on the Flat at Newmarket last month and I think he can pick up where he left off last season over hurdles here. His form was progressive and that was a cracking effort when second to Abacadabras at Aintree. With Molly Ollys Wishes and Goshen likely to push forward he should have a nice target to aim at and I expect him to pick them up comfortably late. Song For Someone looks the danger but he pulled up behind the selection when last seen and needs a wind op to help him bounce back here. Enough to prove on the face of it.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS AT HAYDOCK ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Haydock 3.00 A Plus Tard (7/4)
Gold Cup runner-up who has a clear class-edge on these being 6lb clear on official ratings; ground against his main market rival which makes him an even stronger play; slick jumping should get these in trouble.
As much as I love Bristol De Mai and I really hope he runs well I have to be concerned given the ground. I think the obvious play is the classy A PLUS TARD and if he is in the same form that saw him victorious in Grade 1 company in Ireland and second in a Gold Cup then quite clearly he is the one they all have to beat. I get his price as he does usually improve for a run but I think he might be too good anyway here. Nicholls has been keen to shout about the chances of Next Destination and he ran a cracker when second to Galvin at Cheltenham but if the fav runs his race then he will be playing for a place at best. Waiting Patiently is exactly what his followers would have been doing for all these years.
