THE AUSSIE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS IN RACE 6 AT PORT MACQUARIE OVERNIGHT!
Race 6 Port Macquarie 5.15 Always Written Off (11/8)
Promising type who made a perfect start winning by a head on debut having made good ground up from off the pace over 1200m here back in the summer; likely to be a lot more streetwise now and fit from two easy trial wins.
I think it was a good move from connections to give ALWAYS WRITTEN OFF a bit of time to mature as he did look quite raw on debut. His class got him home in front but I’m expecting to see an improved horse now with two easy trial wins to set him up for this. He is one to keep firmly on side and can make it 2-2 with Koby Jennings in the saddle. Bay of Bengal is a decent yardstick who should make him work but with just the 2 wins from 27 starts he is surely vulnerable for win purposes? Highbury was in good form when last seen and also has to enter calculations but the potential the fav brings to the table would have to concern backers of the latter as he is starting to look a bit exposed already.

Race 2 Cranbourne 7.45 Star Smash (11/8)
Good looking chestnut who has got better with every run and went down less than a length at Wangaratta last time; further improvement to come should see him in the winners enclosure for the first time here.
This looks a very winnable race and I’m keen to stick with STAR SMASH for Simon Zahra and Jamie Mott. He is improving and only missed narrowly last time. With further progress he should take a lot of stopping here. He should enjoy going back up slightly in trip and looks to tick a lot of boxes to me. Age Of Innocence was only fourth last time but was only actually beaten just over a length. That was the same race the selection finished second in so there isn’t a great deal between them but I don’t see why the latter will reverse that. Letzxcel is next in the betting and while he shaped better last time he still needs to improve and might be better with more time and experience on his back.

The Australian Daily Double consists of both the NAP and NB and is a great way of covering our two best bets of the night to maximise profit. They run at Port Macquarie and Cranbourne in the early hours of Friday morning.
