NAP – Best selection of the evening
Southwell 1.00 Len Brennan (5/4)
Looked back to his best on debut for this yard winning head in chest at Plumpton last month, first-time cheekpieces doing the trick; escapes a penalty for that so obvious chance to follow up here; looks the one to beat.
The NAP was back in the winners enclosure yesterday and hopefully we can add another winner to start a new week at Southwell on Monday. LEN BRENNAN won impressively at Plumpton last month and as long as the cheekpieces work again I think he’ll be really hard to beat here. That was a conditional jockeys’ handicap so he escapes a penalty for it and looks to have obvious claims. The form has already been franked with the third Lilith winning by 8 and a half lengths on his next start at Newbury last week. This isn’t the strongest of fields and I think he’ll be hitting the line strongest again. Ecossais won 3 times here last season and is back on his last winning mark so could be the main danger.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) ALSO WON YESTERDAY AND RUNS AT WOLVES!
Wolverhampton 6.30 High Velocity (6/4)
Gutaifan colt who has looked a smart prospect landing the odds as he should have at Newcastle latest to make it 2 wins from just 3 starts; hat-trick beckons on handicap debut with opening mark looking lenient.
It’s hard to tell how good HIGH VELOCITY could be and for that reason I think an opening mark of 81 underestimates him here on handicap debut. He beat a poor field easily last time and with further improvement to come I think he can see these off under James Doyle. Nickleby improved to win a maiden at Southwell last time and is also open to further progress on handicap debut. He looks the most obvious threat to the favourite. Foxy Rascal has only had the 3 starts and also deserves a second look but I do think he needs to find more to trouble the two mentioned above. Red Showgirl also arrives in winning form and is on a workable mark so might also be fighting it out for a place.
