Doncaster 1.35
What a race this is setup to be with it looking like one of the best renewals for a long time. The two fillies at the top of the market look like they could go right to the top. I think it will suit TRILLIUM here with so much pace on. She was doing all of her best work late when winning at Goodwood. She beat some good sorts easily with her finishing kick and will thrive on the pace here. Looks the most likely winner!
The Platinum Queen ran such a good race in the Nunthorpe and sets the form standard. She will go well but with 5 runs already this season plus the amount of horses going forward in the race I favour the selection. Crispy Cat could be a threat if it comes up softer as the fillies aren’t proven on it.
Curragh 1.50
I’m surprised La Petite Coco is as short as she is for this. I really like ABOVE THE CURVE for Joseph O’Brien. This American Pharoah filly has won 2 of her last 3 and is arguably unlucky not to be coming in here off the back of a hat-trick given she really should have won at Chester. She was nicely on top in France and is clearly on the upgrade. This looks her trip and with plenty of pace on if she gets the gaps 4/1 looks too big.
La Petite Coco ran well when third to Alpinista at York and won this last year so deserves plenty of respect but I’d be cautious at short odds. Rumbles Of Thunder impressed at Cork last month and if finding further improvement could be best of the rest. Insinuendo finished fourth in this last year and her neck second to Luxembourg has been franked.
One of the hardest races of the day to call with so many hardy handicappers in here. WHENTHEDEALINSDONE looked like he may have plenty more to come when thrashing rivals in a handicap at Ascot a week ago. He travels so well into his races and this trip looks perfect after that run at Ascot. If he is as good as some think then a 10lb rise shouldn’t stop him going close.
At a bigger price LORD RIDDIFORD could still be well handicapped as he was rated 103 last season before dropping to 87 which he won off at Goodwood. With the amount of pace on they can drop him in and come late to run a big race. I think Makanah will be a big threat after going well in handicaps all season. He went close off this mark at York.
Curragh 2.25
How good was HIGHFIELD PRINCESS in the Nunthorpe? She tanked into that and won going away. She has now won 4 of her last 5 starts and that form beating Minzaal in France has been boosted as well. She has to be the selection even though I do think this a big ask. She is so tough and reliable and whatever beats her will win the race and I just can’t find one that will. Hopefully she can deliver again!
Ladies Church ran on strongly to peg back Mooneista over C&D and this 3yo is improving so perhaps she could give the selection most to think about? Romantic Proposal won this last year travelling so well and she might be capable of running a big race as well but I’m not sure her low draw is where you want to be so that is slightly offputting.
Doncaster 2.45
It looks like TRUESHAN will finally get ground soft enough to see him at his best on Sunday and if he does they will struggle to beat Alan King’s gelding. He is rated clear of the field and on going with soft in the description he has won all of his last 4. He deserves to take this race before going on to bigger and better end of season targets. Obviously he is well found in the market so perhaps one to stick in a multiple.
Coltrane and Get Shirty are dangers on paper but have a lot to find to beat the selection. Stratum stays all day but probably lacks the change of gear of some of these in the field. Lismore is the likely pace angle in the race so I expect Dettori to send her on early. If she goes hard then at least it won’t turn tactical.
Curragh 3.00
I’ve been really impressed with MEDITATE so far and her Royal Ascot win and then Group 2 win over C&D last time stick in the memory. She made all impressively to beat Mawj at Ascot and then employed the same tactics over track and trip last time proving too strong for Olivia Maralda. She clearly has more in the locker if called upon and she should make her mark at the top level now.
Tahiyra looked a fine prospect bolting up on debut at Galway and that form has been boosted since so she could be the danger. This is obviously a lot tougher though. Lakota Sioux has plenty of ability but perhaps with an attitude. If she puts it all in here she could be decent value to run a place at big odds.
Doncaster 3.20
This race has fallen apart a bit and with the lack of pace it could get quite messy. That said KINROSS does look the best 7 furlong horse in here so will keep it simple with him. He won nicely at York and has been a neck away from 2 more wins twice this season. The ground won’t be an issue and he is the one to beat. He is around 5/4 at the time of writing and to be honest it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go off odds-on come post time.
Garrus is very interesting stepping up to this trip and if he sees it out has to be a danger to all. Of the rest Double Or Bubble and New Energy should go well. I just hope it isn’t too tactical and someone takes up the running. Misty Grey could be the one to go forward and even Al Suhail might take advantage if they do try and dawdle a bit.
Curragh 3.35
This is nearly always won by a smart horse with the likes of Pinatubo, Thunder Moon and Native Trail taking it in recent years. Aidan O’Brien hasn’t won it since Churchill in 2016 but he also had Air Force Blue and Gleneagles win it before that so clearly knows what it takes. AESOP’S FABLES looks really exciting this year and can remain unbeaten here. He powered away last time and looks a lively Guineas hope for next year.
The stable also saddle Hans Andersen who was no match for the selection last time but still might be the one to finish second here. Marbaan has won all 3 starts since finishing third on debut and is another colt who looks to have a bright future but just might be bumping into an exciting one in the shape of the selection.
Doncaster 3.55
At one point earlier in the year this looked like the race of the season but it has lost a few big players. NEW LONDON is clear favourite for this and should take some beating. He ran out a convincing winner at Goodwood and the way he hit the line you would think he will relish this trip. His only loss was when Changingoftheguard got a very easy lead at Chester and he will likely make it 5 wins from 6 here.
Hoo Ya Mal shouldn’t be underestimated after running the selection close at Goodwood but likely needs more. Haskoy is clearly a classy filly and will win some big races if in training next season but she looks as though she is still learning. The way she came home at Goodwood was impressive enough though so she is the biggest danger.
Curragh 4.10
I’ve been really impressed with KYPRIOS and I fully expect him to make it 5 wins in a row. He was always holding off Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup and this 4yo remains open to further improvement. He has such a likeable attitude and if he runs his race the rest have it all to do to try and get him beat. Aidan O’Brien has won this before with the likes of Flag Of Honour and Order Of St George and he’ll be hoping this colt is even better.
Hamish has tons of ability and is the clear threat. He looked back to his best to win the Ormonde Stakes at Chester and while that was a nice effort he will find this tougher stepping into Group 1 company for the first time. Raise You has won 3 of his last 4 and also deserves a mention as I think he’ll run his race as well.
