NAP – My best tip of the day

Ascot 2.25 Hamish (best price 6/4)

Smart type who again made a winning reappearance taking the Ormonde at Chester back in May; huge run in defeat beaten less than a length by Kyprios in the Irish St Leger; carries 3lb penalty but still hard to oppose.

I rate Kyprios highly so for HAMISH to get within a length of him at the Curragh last month was an excellent run. The front pair pulled 7 lengths clear from Search For A Song so the form looks really strong. He carries a 3lb penalty and drops back to a mile and a half but this is easier and he is clearly the one to beat. High Definition should put good pace to the race and that will help him and avoid it turning tactical. Cresta ran well when fifth in the Gordon Stakes and then confirmed that to win nicely at Listed level last month. He likely has more to come so looks the biggest danger to the selection but still has it to prove up in grade. Farhan won at a big price at York and could end up best of the rest.

Ascot 2.25 Hamish (best price 6/4)

Newmarket 2.42 Saffron Beach (best price 7/4)

Tough, likeable filly who won this last year and has looked better than ever this campaign winning the Duke Of Cambridge and the Prix Rothschild before bumping into Pearls Galore in the Matron; obvious claims.

It is hard to look past last years winner SAFFRON BEACH for this. Jane Chapple-Hyam has got the best out of this filly and she backed up her Royal Ascot romp to win the Group 1 Prix Rothschild in France last month. She then went down all guns blazing when second to Pearls Galore in the Matron and should confirm that form with main market rival Homeless Songs who was trailing behind in fourth. She will likely go forward under William Buick and just like last year should be tough to pass in the closing stages. Homeless Songs would have to be the danger again but I’m struggling to see her reversing that form and she was fading at the line. Laurel is 2-2 but this is much tougher.
