Race 8 Newcastle 7.35 Jedibeel (best price 11/10)

Promising colt who created quite a big impression bolting up on debut at Hawkesbury to win by 3 lengths; sure to improve from that initial effort and under likely aggressive tactics again will be hard to beat.

No surprise to see JEDIBEEL top the betting for this following that dominant performance to win on debut. He cruised through the race and was always coming out on top. He will improve and is clearly destined for better things in time so one to keep on side. Karedada improved from a promising enough debut to win at this track last time and usually would be a decent bet but looks to be bumping into a smart one here. Keikoku is just 1 from 8 so needs more to spring an upset but likely won’t be far away after shaping better when third at Goulburn last time. Satness is even more exposed with 1 win from 21 and has a bit to prove after that fourth at Gosford.

Race 5 Ballina 6.05 Inquest (best price 7/4)

Likeable type who justified strong support to make the breakthrough over track and trip when last seen; going the right way now and looks to have found another good opportunity to salute the judge.

The front pair both look nice types in this but I’m confident INQUEST can make it 2 wins from just 3 starts. He caught the eye when third on debut and then improved to justify strong support last time. He is improving with experience and looks well placed to follow up now. Fireflies has a similar profile having stepped forward again to win at Coffs Harbour. She has more to come and looks the most obvious threat to the favourite. Maple Door is just 1 win from 11 but he is a nice enough type but likely up against it. Roman Rebel made a winning start but then struggled a bit at Taree and needs to bounce back to have any sort of a chance in this.
