NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS OVER JUMPS AT TAUNTON ON MONDAY AFTERNOON!
Taunton 2.10 Vulcan (1/1)
Expensive purchase who did well on the Flat and shaped with considerable ability when third to now Triumph fav Tritonic at Ascot in January; experience won’t have been lost on him and wind op since; hard to oppose.
Not much of a price but hopefully we can head into the Cheltenham Festival with the NAP in winning form. VULCAN caught the eye on hurdles debut for Dr Richard Newland and with improvement a near certainty he should open his account here. He was beaten some 19 lengths by Tritonic but that horse is now fav for the Triumph and with Casa Loupi in second (who runs earlier at Stratford) the form looks worth following. He was sent off second fav that day but was held up and made up a lot of ground before inevitably tiring 3 out. With that experience under his belt he can take the required step forward to go a couple of places better. Iron Mike will appreciate dropping back in class and is the danger.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS AT WOLVERHAMPTON ON MONDAY NIGHT!
Wolverhampton 6.50 Margaret Dumont (7/4)
Camelot filly who ran an eye-catching race on debut for Hugo Palmer when third to Lucky’s Dream at Lingfield last month; that looks solid form and with the step up to two miles likely to unlock improvement she can go close.
I’m surprised MARGARET DUMONT isn’t favourite here as she ran a very nice race on debut for this yard when third to Lucky’s Dream at Lingfield and I like the move stepping up to two miles now. She has shaped as though this test will be ideal and given she has only raced 6 times there should be a lot more to come yet. Starczewski put in a career best to win at Kempton and while he is respected I feel like there isn’t as much scope for improvement as the selection and an extra 4lb makes life tougher. He still looks the danger but I’m keen on the selection to find more when it matters. Mukha Magic comes out well on the figures but he can be slowly away and will need to be on his A-game.
