NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE AUSSIE NAP (BEST BET) WON OVERNIGHT AND RUNS AT RANDWICK ON SATURDAY!
Race 9 Randwick 7.20 Blondeau (11/8)
Smart type who fairly rattled home to win impressively at Gosford on return last month; excuses latest after a tardy start but was hitting the line strong again and step back up in trip can unlock further improvement.
The wide draw could end up suiting BLONDEAU here as he will be ridden quietly early before looking to swoop late. The step back up to 1400m will suit judging by that last run. He was just given too much to do after an awkward start but was doing all his best work late in the day. He remains open to further progress for me and with 3 wins and 5 placed efforts from just 14 runs he is building a progressive profile. Canasta is a decent yardstick and he should give the selection something to think about. Cisco Bay is fairly exposed in comparison but is consistent so also has to enter calculations. Kobe Rocks possibly best of the rest and might be a bit of value to grab a place if things go to plan.

THE AUSSIE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) ALSO WON OVERNIGHT AND RUNS AT BELMONT!
Race 5 Belmont 6.57 Devoted Star (6/4)
Likeable mare who wound up strongly to finish well for second on return over 1000m here last month; fitter now and can still do better back up in trip so looks the one they all have to beat; worth keeping safe.
With the likes of Puli, Ohbeeh and Agent Jay all potentially pushing forward this could set up perfectly for DEVOTED STAR and William Pike. This mare is plenty talented and she ran an eye-catching race on return denied just a nose. She will strip fitter for that and with a strong pace engaged she should get nicely settled early before looking to rattle home. The step back up to 1200m will help and she is by far the most likely winner of this for me. Puli has won 5 times from 13 starts so has to be feared. He built on an encouraging return to win here last month and that’s quite good form so I expect him to finish second. Agent Jay should come on for that return effort and looks best of the rest.

The Australian Daily Double consists of both the NAP and NB and is a great way of covering our two best bets of the night to maximise profit. They run at Belmont and Randwick in the early hours of Saturday morning.
