Kempton 1.15

A competitive handicap hurdle to kick off the action live on ITV on Saturday and with Pricewise tipping Sea Invasion there might be value in backing JOKER DE MAI for Harry Derham. This horse remains unexposed having only had 3 starts on these shores and he was impressive at Lingfield on penultimate start. He certainly wasn’t disgraced under a penalty at Exeter last time and freshened up with more to come should go very well.

Sea Invasion obviously has more to offer up in trip now handicapping so looks the danger but don’t rule out Mark Of Gold either. Gary Moore is going well and this horse won the race 12 months ago. This looks a better race but it would be no surprise to see him run well.

Kempton 1.50

Paul Nicholls often targets the Adonis with a good one having won it down the years with the likes of Zarkandar, Irish Saint, Zubayr and Solo and KALIF DU BERLAIS obviously still has the potential to be a smart prospect. He made a bright start winning on debut in France before being snapped up by connections and following up even more impressively at this track last month. That form has been boosted and he looks the one to beat.

Givemefive ran away from the opposition at Warwick last month and is 2-2 over hurdles himself. He is owned by golfing legends Graeme McDowell (a GYTO follower) and Brooks Koepka so I’ll be cheering him on. Peking Opera is another one with a big reputation so isn’t ignored either.

Newcastle 2.08

This is another fiercely competitive race but I do think the market has it right with ANGLERS CRAG and Fenland Tiger most likely to fight it out. The latter should gallop all day and has won 3 of his last 4 so should run well. I prefer the Brian Ellison horse though as he is clearly thriving and may well defy a further 11lb rise and complete a four-timer. He jumps well and seems to have a big engine so the trip should be no issue.

Bar the pair mentioned above Flower Of Scotland won the Borders National at Kelso last season so has stamina in abundance. She pulled up at Carlisle on reappearance but given time since if bouncing back is another one likely to get competitive.

Kempton 2.27

I think the traders made a bit of a mistake installing ARCLIGHT at 5/1 for this race. She is unbeaten over fences having gone 3-3 since October. She made her chase debut at this venue looking well suited by this track and hasn’t looked back following up at Exeter and then relishing the step up to this trip completing the hat-trick at Wincanton last time. Freshened up she can improve again and should run a big race at a decent price.

Tahmuras will keep galloping in the ground and didn’t do much wrong only run down late at Exeter by Crebilly earlier this month. Blow Your Wad might be a greater threat though as he impressed winning here just after Christmas and is better than he showed at Cheltenham last month.

Southwell (AW) 2.45

Hard to look past the favourite CLARENDON HOUSE in this. He was an impressive winner over C&D on penultimate start and did little wrong sent over to Dubai finishing fourth on Turf at Meydan last month. He has his sights lowered back down into Listed company here and back on the AW looks to have plenty going for him and does appeal as the most likely winner.

Diligent Harry is likeable and impressed winning at Lingfield at the start of the month. He looks the danger if producing that sort of form again. Juan Les Pins is a bit of a cliff horse of mine and I’d like to see him run well – I’ll probably end up having a saver on him to hit the frame.

Southwell (AW) 2.45

Clarendon House 11/10

Kempton 3.00

There are some nice horses lining up here but in testing ground I’m keen to keep LUMP SUM on side. He won his first two starts over hurdles before bumping into Jeriko Du Reponet at Doncaster last time. That is good form with Fiercely Proud back in third and I expect him to confirm that. He should improve again and looks a nice prospect and possibly one to follow today and going forward.

Secret Squirrel did little wrong in defeat again last time and looks the obvious danger but he needs to prove he can handle this deep ground. Panjari won readily at Musselburgh and could get competitive but this is definitely a fair bit tougher.

Southwell (AW) 3.20

This is a tricky race as a few of these are obviously coming here fresh including last year’s winner LORD NORTH for John and Thady Gosden. He is a very classy performer and won this 12 months ago at Lingfield. This is a different test but he has been versatile in his glittering career and if he gets the gaps I think he’ll be coming through strongest of all.

Military Order is a big danger as he has race-fitness on side having gone down just a head to Enemy at this track last month. He should be spot on for this now and will give his running. Tyrrhenian Sea is another nice horse and he has confidence high so shouldn’t be ruled out either.

Kempton 3.37

I’m surprised FORWARD PLAN has been a bit of a negative in the betting for the lucky last. He shaped as though he needed the run when only midfield on return at Wincanton and then progressed again to win with a fair bit in hand at Doncaster back in December. He was denied just a nose by Annual Invictus again at that venue last month and up just 4lb seems sure to give his running once more.

Bowtogreatness is still quite lightly raced and he was back to some sort of form when fifth behind Ginny’s Destiny at Cheltenham last month. Dropped another 2lb the handicapper is definitely giving him a chance now so he could run a nice race.
